We recently connected with Tiffany Bethea and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Tiffany thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
I wish I started sooner. I’ve always had a love for the beauty industry and a creative hand. During Covid I found myself with a lot of time on my hands. I worked a corporate 9-5 job, commuting to and from work daily Covid quickly changed my reality and I found myself home working from a laptop. On one hand I was glad to be home more often with family and not have to do that brutal commute everyday. On the other hand I found myself with plenty of free time. This is where my love and creativity for makeup took off. I watched YouTube videos of big influencers like James Charles and Nikki tutorials that taught me how to do makeup and blend and do cut creases. I also watched creators like Jeffery Star who taught me how to contour and the best makeup to buy. I quickly learned techniques that took most years to perfect and master. I soon came up with the idea to start my own cosmetic line “Highlighther Beauty” I formulated and designed my own products which launched January 2021. Looking back I wish I waited to start my own cosmetic line, why? Because I truly underestimated how much work it is to provide products and services. I had way to much on my plate and no real business plan on how to scale and grow my business. Doing makeup and selling makeup are two totally different things! I didn’t understand that at first but I get it now. So I scaled back and closed my cosmetic line and solely focused on makeup artistry services.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I got started in the beauty industry during Covid. I switched from working in the office to working from home which I was glad about but I found I had a lot of time on my hands. I’ve always been a creative, growing up I loved to draw, color, sing and dance etc. I always loved makeup but never knew how to do it. So I utilized my free time during Covid to learn everything I could about the craft and that’s how “Highlighther Beauty D.B.A. “Faces by Tiff” was born. I offer an array of makeup services like Prom, Bridal, Runway, Editorial and special effects. I think what sets me apart from most artist is my style, my makeup application timing and genres of makeup I specialize in. I’m most proud of staying strong and never giving up. I have wanted to throw in the towel many times for many reasons but I believe in myself and I know this is my calling. This is what keeps me going when times are rough and hard to deal with. I remind myself this is a GOD givin gift and talent I have, what a disservice it would be to my creator to let it go to waste!! I try not to compare myself to other creatives but sometimes it can get to you that you don’t feel like your as successful or well known or have a huge following as others who are in similar fields. But when those feelings arise I remind myself that we are all on different paths and we never see what goes on behind the scenes, so comparing is the thief of joy. I believe what’s for you will eventually find you.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal and/or mission is to be successful in my craft, relaunch my cosmetics line and become a household brand that everyone can afford and also benefit from. Inspire and create opportunities for others who want to follow in my footsteps.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding part of being an artist and creative is watching my ideas thoughts and dreams come to life, and making people feel good about them selves and being apart of special moments in my clients lives like weddings and prom. It’s truly priceless
