Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tiffany Arnold. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Tiffany thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Have you ever experienced an industry-wide U-Turn? Tell us about it?
I am in the industry of beauty! Ever changing, Ever growing, and where the saying “ only the strong survive “ holds true to its meaning. I first began my career in 2004 not knowing the immediate and drastic shifts my industry would take upon graduating Cosmetology school. The early 2000’s was a time where the internet was starting to boom so really all the foundations prior to the web were about to be shaken. I had to decide what route I was going to take to start earning and stay connected with where my industry was headed. I was initially taught to focus on skill and customer service to have a lasting successful career. However I quickly learned that brand building, networking, and visibility were going to play a major role in my business as well. I decided to start at a “corporate salon” SmartStyles! They used to be anchored in almost every Walmart at the time. It was great exposure and experience, as I was able to perfect my cutting skills, this salon was a similar model to Great Clips. It was a high traffic environment so it was perfect for a new professional looking to master speed, and customer service. Also the art of Retailing was learned here. I stayed nearly 3 yrs and decided my creative abilities were not being used here and it’s time for a U-turn! So I decided to bet on myself and go into a commission salon. I had a small clientele but it was enough to build on. Stayed there for a while, decided 4 years was long enough on that side of town and made another U-turn to begin what would be a 10 year stretch of learning growing and evolving into the professional I am today. I relocated to a Beautiful Mall and the Salon was huge with all the “things” definitely an ungraded! I had finally started to feel like , this is why I went to school! This is what I imagined! There were 20 stylists working there is had private rooms , dimly lit waiting areas plates soft music and served wine! It was EVERYTHING! What I didn’t know was that my industry was about to make another major shift and now we were being introduced to “trend setters” again the internet was doing its job! So we began to see these big influx of clients asking for the same style, whatever the trend was at the time. Although I was about 5 years into my career I still needed more experience and training to keep up with the changing requests from existing and new clients. I had to make another U-turn and leave what I thought was my dream environment and I decided to go work at a New Salon with a New Concept which catered to the trending popular styles. I really flourished here quickly moving from stylist to lead stylist, to assistant manager then eventually managing the store. These stores were franchised similar to the Regis salons I started in just a different target market so I was able to use the skills I had learned 5 years ago and with that my store became highest earning in our region amongst at least 4 others. I gave them nearly 4 years of my career and decided again to bet on myself. Went in business with a friend for a couple of years then Covid hit. That’s allowed me to refocus and Plan for the Salon in in today! Tiffany Hair Co. I’m always a student of my industry and life in general I’m always open to a U-turn if the time comes again. There is always more work to do!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Opening a Salon right after a pandemic was a huge risk! I knew I was preparing for a journey but what I didn’t know was that I would work alone for almost 2 years before I got my first booth renter. Maintaining a Salon Space alone while building required sacrifice, discipline and resilience.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
I once took a marketing class and the instructor said, “ It doesn’t matter how many similar businesses are near you, whoever owns the internet Wins the client!” I never forgot that so the first thing I did marketing wise was to build my internet presence in that area I chose to use my Google Maps Profile to do that… it is still bringing in most of my new clients.
