We were lucky to catch up with Tiffany and Evan Jones recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tiffany and Evan, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you take vacations? Why or why not?
We do! It can be tricky, but we found a few weeks here and there that are slower for us. We run a hunting preserve, so we look for time before or after a hunting season, or right after we finish planting our fields. A lot of our work is weather dependent, so we can’t always plan a vacation far in advance, so we stick to locations that we can drive to.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
White Oaks Preserve is a 350 acre property that has been in our family for over 20 years. We offer low pressure guided deer and turkey hunts, dove hunts, shooting sports, fishing, lodging, u-pick blueberries, and hopefully by next year, we will have event/wedding space.
We moved to the preserve in January 2022 to get it back up and running and have been working non-stop to create enjoyable experiences for everyone that walks through our doors.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Evan was working as a professional sport fisher and Tiffany was working on yachts as a mate. When Covid hit, Tiffany was laid off, but Evan was able to keep working. We got married in 2020, and welcomed our baby girl in 2021. Realizing we didn’t want to be away from our daughter for months at a time by being out at sea, we decided to move from Florida to Virginia to get White Oaks back up and running. Evan still gets to freelance for fishing tournaments in late spring since that is a slower time of year for us at the preserve.

How did you build your audience on social media?
Our social media presence has been slow, but steady. Tiffany created the White Oaks website first, then Instagram, followed by Facebook. She then shares those posts to her personal account that has over 20k followers.
It’s important to update all of your platforms frequently, but it can be hard to come up with content. The best advice we have, is to always take photos and videos, even if it seems insignificant at the time. People love to see your improvements and progress.
We also started selling our chicken eggs to a local store and restaurant in town, so we all tag each other in posts on social media.
