Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tiffanie Smith. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Tiffanie, appreciate you joining us today. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea?
I started my business by doing research on the products I wanted to make. I wanted to ensure that all natural ingredients were used in creating my products. After several months of researching and trying out several different recipes I found one that worked. I decided to send out samples to several family members and friends who I knew would give constructive criticism and not “tell me what I want to hear.” After all the samples had been sent out and mostly everyone had used at least one of the products, the unofficial “official” reviews started coming in. Of course the first review you’re excited about, but you want to hear from others just to ensure that they are indeed being honest with you. More reviews started coming in and everyone had expressed that they really enjoyed all the products (two bath bombs, and sugar scrub )they were sent. They expressed that the scents were really nice but not too overwhelming. The sugar scrub was a big hit, they expressed how they loved how it made their skin feel after using it and that it wasn’t to abrasive and harsh on the skin and it also left them smelling like the fragrance. After compiling all the information that was given to me I worked on getting all my scents together and named all the products.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Tiffanie Smith, I am originally from San Angelo TX and have been in Dallas for the past 18 years. I have a soon to be 16 year old son who keeps me busy with his sports (soccer, baseball and track) I am the Owner and founder of Bombed By Tiff LLC. My company specializes in bath and body products made with all natural ingredients. The purpose of my products is to really bring self care back to the busy lives of women, men and children. With so much that has been going on in the world the past two years, it’s very important to me that we all practice self care. We all get so caught up with life that we sometimes forget to take time for ourselves. With my products something as simple as a bath and/or shower can change the outcome of your day. My products consist of Bath bombs, shower steamers, sugar scrubs, whipped body butter, milk bath, bath soak (salts). Somethings that I am most proud of is the #50StateChallenge that I did within the first year of being in business. This challenge consisted of me shipping to all 50 states in the USA before my one year anniversary 7/3/2021, I actually accomplished this goal with the help of my amazing “Bomb Squad” and Instagram followers in May of 2021, two months before my deadline. Within my first year in business I had so many great opportunities from being featured on K104.5’s national syndicated radio show spotlighting my business, being featured in Voyage Magazine, an interview with Marshall University’s (Huntington,West Virginia) school newspaper “The Parthenon” an interview with the hosts from “Real Talk With The Jenkins” a show that comes on Fox ( San Angelo TX) and aired on Gospel American Network Channel, a spotlight on The Boss Lady Network for women entrepreneurs. I was also able to reach my goal of having 10k followers on IG within my first year of business. I want people to know that although I am a business owner that I am just like them, I still work a 9-5, and also a PT job while raising my son and running a business. Persistency is key in this day and age of social media. I have met total strangers from having my business and they have been a huge part of my success, and I wouldn’t be where I am without them.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Building my social media at first really started my mistake. I had created my FB & IG page way before I had a website and anyone knew about my business. When people started following it, I would DM and ask how they found my page, because I was really trying to keep it a “secret” until I officially launched my website and told everyone about my business. With the help of total strangers sharing my page in their stories and on their pages, to FB groups that I am in for business owners is how I gained a lot of my followers. Word of mouth and referrals also played a big part in my following as well. My advise would be to be consistent, I can tell by my sales if I am not persistent on social media. I try to always keep something in my stories and I create Reels using the latest/trending sounds to reach a wider audience.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
I funded my business out of pocket. I bought all the products that I needed to make everything and I just would keep track of what I needed as far as inventory. When I first started I bought lots of inventory (jars, bags, bottles etc.) so that I would make sure I could keep up with the demand. When I needed to reup on inventory I just used some of the money from my proceeds to get what I needed.
