Tiffani, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I really knew I wanted to rap once I started entering talent shows and I kept winning first place. I won my high schools talent show 2 years in a row and I also won two trophies in one night at the “Hip hop for the soul’s talent showcase.i won first place and I won freestyle battle night winner. I felt like God was trying to let me know I had a gift.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Tiffani Douglas AKA Seminary Tiff born and raised in oakland california.. I’m a rapper, singer and actress. My first passion is rapping I’ve been rapping since I was a little girl.i was inspired by DA BRAT who was the first female rapper to go platinum. I was motivated and inspired by my late grandmother Minnie Thomas to chase my dreams. She was the the executive director of the solid foundation which was a drug program for pregnant drug addicted women. I witnessed her accomplish so many things like being woman of the year and being the health and human services commissioner of oakland California, she meant everything to me. She told me to leave my mark here and make sure the world knew I had been here. So with that being said I’ve put out 7 projects and multiple singles, my highest streaming song is a remix I did to Chris brown song titled no guidance it’s at over 1 million streams. My most memorable feature is from SPICE 1 he’s featured on my first cd titled “It’s Tiffani”.
I also made my acting debut in a series titled “EVOL THE SERIES” that was filmed and directed by Damon hooker AKA hookerboy out of oakland california..it is now streaming on Amazon prime and the Tubi app.
Right now I’m really focused on becoming a better woman overall and putting out good quality music, and making great connections with good people. I’m not signed to any label, I’m an independent artist and I been grinding and staying true to myself. I think what sets me apart from other female artist is that I’m ok with being me, I’m not rapping like these other females or trying to get a BBL, .. and i am a lesbian, I’m gay and proud and I’m my own boss. I’m mostly proud of my growth, once I met my wife/ manager Shemicka Johnson everything fell into place. We set goals and accomplished them and went out and took advantage of opportunities .She booked me for the LA PRIDE FESTIVAL and that was one of my most exciting shows and also san francisco gay pride. We also started our own podcast titled,, “The keep it lit podcast” where we smoked and educated people on Marijuana and talked about hot topics. I feel like I can do whatever I put my mind to.im also in A new movie titled “Bippin and boostin”
Filmed and directed by Damon hooker it will be out on Christmas day 2022..I jus wanna keep swimming like Chrisean Rock new song
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Whenever I’m called out to rap or freestyle against someone..I never back down and I’ve never lost and I’m not like other rappers who have all these verses remembered in they head..I freestyle rap off the top of my head and I’ll rap about what you wearing and how you looking so you know it’s not a game. My dad (KIRK DOUGLAS) passed away in January 2022 and I dedicated a song to him titled “TO MY DAD” and I shot the video at his funeral and losing him inspired me to go harder with my music .this year I dropped multiple singles and released 9 videos..I also dropped a video for each record on my ep titled “BEEN DOIN THIS” I’m also working on my youtube channel to gain subscribers and I’m currently working on my album titled ” STILL TIFF DA GIFT “. SUBSCRIBE to my youtube channel for future content and visuals.
.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
I Remember a friend of mines named Mark strong gave me a book titled “everything you need to know about the music industry” and once I read it..it made me understand what making music is really all about and how it becomes your career and how you need discipline and you need a team.
