We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tiff Marie . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tiff below.
Tiff, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
Yes, I am happy as a business owner. I take pride in knowing I am making decisions for myself that will move my brand and my career as a music artist in the right direction. I have worked a regular job for a good portion of my life, and even though I was paid for my time and my skillset. I used it to make someone rich or stay rich.
Because I am new in the music career field, I think about a regular job often. All decisions are made by me with assistance from management. I recently shot a music video for my new single and worked through the creative process to include the story I wanted to tell, how I wanted to look, and the delivery was overwhelming. I am always proud of the final product, but the implementation can be hard when you are funding everything.
Tiff, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a singer, songwriter from Chicago. I have been singing and writing songs since the age of thirteen. I spent a lot of time in the church choir which helped me branch into R&B, My father is a music producer, and growing up I watched him work with different artists. He was the reason I loved music so much, I would sit in the studio with him for hours watching him craft a song from beginning to end and I knew that what I wanted to do with my life.
When he noticed I could sing, he spent time recording me and taught me how to write a song from beginning to end. It was always important to him that I knew how to write so I would not have to depend on anyone else. I am most proud that I am able to see a vision and put it into action. Everything I have done so far in my career has been on my own and I am embracing being an independent artist.
What I want fans to know most about me is my love for 90’s R&B, you can hear it in the music and from my sense of fashion. I will always pay homage to that era because that’s when my love for R&B started. While I do love how R&B has grown, growing up in the 90’s era is like a badge of honor.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A lesson that I had to unlearn is that talent gets you in the door. Its more about your work ethic, and relationship-building in this indusrty. I learned that music is rougly about 10-15% and the business side of music makes up the other 85%
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I am still building my audience on social media. The good thing about social media is that you can reach thousands and millions of people without leaving your house. Making a connection with fans is important, they want to be a part of the process. This can include posting content consistently, going live, creating challenges etc. Its important that you find what is right for you and stick with it.
