Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to TieSha Carter. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, TieSha thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
For as long as I can remember I have had a passion for the creative arts. However, because the arts industry is always one that is looked at as not very lucrative, I put my passions to the side and followed the career path as a Software and Systems Engineer. Throughout the years I would always continue to tap into my love for creating by painting, taking photos, and working on DIY projects on the side. It wasn’t until the end of 2020 when I was overtaken by a mental health crisis that I turned to creative arts in the form of jewelry design to cope. Jewelry design allowed me to not only learn a new form of visual art but also to tap into the love I always had for painting and photography. In 2021 unofficially and in 2022 officially is when I decided to launch a part-time creative arts career as an independent jewelry designer and launch my own brand Jacx Carter Designs handmade jewelry.
TieSha, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is TieSha Carter and I am the founder and designer/creator for Jacx Carter Designs. Jacx Carter Designs is a handmade jewelry brand that offers an eclectic mix of necklaces, earrings and bracelets. I like to explore color and texture by utilizing a mix of mediums to create unique one of a kind or small batch pieces.
Jacx Carter Designs is a brand born out of jewelry design as a creative outlet and coping mechanism for my anxiety disorder. The more I began to create and share with my family the more they encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone and introduce my pieces to a wider audience. In 2021 I launched Jacx Carter Designs as an Etsy shop. In 2022 I decided to navigate away from Etsy and truly build my own unique brand leaving behind the platform of a saturated market.
The biggest thing that sets me apart from other designs is that every single piece that I sell was made by me. My hands have literally touched every product that is in my shop. Because I love to explore all different types of materials, I think you will find a lot of mixed media pieces in my shop that you wouldn’t find anywhere else. I also like to highlight that because I am as small business, I do my best to source my materials from other small business owners. I believe in supporting my community.
The goal of my brand is for customers that wear my pieces to feel confident. I want them to feel like they are wearing something that totally represents and accentuates their personality and identity. I want them to be proud that they have a one of kind (or a few) that they selected just for them.
Outside of being an independent jewelry designer I have a full-time career as a Senior Systems Engineer with 20+ years of experience in the industry. I am a wife of 12 years and a mom to a 9-year-old son and 8-year-old daughter. I am passionate about mental health as it is the catalyst for starting me off on this journey. My faith, my family, my time and my integrity are the things I most appreciate and value the most.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative for me is being able to share my gift with others. I love not only being able to transform my visions into wearable pieces but to also have the things I create make people feel positive about themselves.
I am also grateful for the opportunities that I have to share my journey as a creative with others and hope to be an inspiration to those in and outside of the community.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal for my journey is to replace my current career with one that I am beyond passionate about. I am finally pursuing gem that was buried for years and am ready to take it as far as God allows. I want to continue to use creating as a positive outlet and coping mechanism when experiencing anxiety and encourage others to do the same. I hope to one day have pieces of mine seen on the red carpet and on the big screen.
