We were lucky to catch up with Tierra Jones recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tierra, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
I have often taken risk during my creative journey. I have tussled over being a full-time creative to having part-time jobs/ gigs to help fund my endeavors. However, the most important risk that I have taken was choosing my happiness. The most recent risk I took was to leave my part-time job and pursue my creative career full time. I had to break my mindset and beliefs of what I thought having a tradition job could provide me. Sure, it provided me with financial stability, knowing that i had a paycheck coming every two weeks was comforting. At the end of the day that is all the job provided for me, and with the importance our society places on Money, I was nervous to leave. I was at my job for four years and everyday I walked in losing more of myself. Towards the end of my time there, I felt as if I had lost a grip on who “Tierra Amira Jones” was. My misery at work started to bleed into my personal life and affect it in a negative way. i was short-tempered, depressed, and exhausted mentally. I always had an idea of what I wanted my life to be ever since I was a child. I had to realized that going to a job that affected me that much, that made me feel as if I wasn’t good enough, was the equivalent to trying to grow a garden in the desert. I lacked the proper environment and aids in order to help me grow and progress. because I felt myself becoming stagnant, I then realized that I was in the wrong environment. I am not saying that some people dint thrive at the job but my creative talents were of no use there. Since leaving my job, I have been more than happy. That doesn’t mean I don’t stress from time to time about money but all in all I know that I am ok. This time has made me explore my creative talents beyond my imagination. I was able to study Comedy and Improv comedy more, I am taking more DJing gigs, I was able to publish three journals on Amazon, I started my Media and Entertainment Company called “Full Xposure Media”. I know this is just the beginning and i am excited to be on this journey and continue to push myself everyday!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I was born on August 23rd in Washington, DC. Due to lack of good public education, I left DC at the age of 11 to attend a junior boarding school in New York. There, I was able to flourish my love and skills in dance , music and acting. When I graduated to attend an all-girls boarding school I continued to further my progression while acting, dancing, and singing in HS production such as West Side Story, Chicago, and Guy and Dolls. Since I attended an all-girls schoolat the time, I often played male as well as female roles in the production. Immediately after college graduation I travelled, for the 2nd time, to the Cannes Film Festival where I worked with several Entertainment companies.
During my time in Los Angeles, I worked on the set of major television shows which were Shameless on Showtime, Westworld on HBO, and Insecure on HBO. Furthermore, I was a guest on the show “Out Loud With Claudia Jordan” on FoxSoul and featured as “One To Watch” in Voyage LA Magazine, Medium, and Vocal Media. As a model, I have been featured in Sky Magazine and West Hollywood Magazine, while managing several social media campaigns for companies such as Reebok, TomboyX, Hum Nutrition, Marriott Hotels, Stay Pineapple Hotels, and several beauty brands. DJing is also one of my greatest joys, with getting the opportunity to be a resident DJ for two shows that air on Dash Radio, as DJ Full Xposure, I have hosted my own morning radio show called “Music Xposed” on a digital platform known as Ethel’s Club. Moreover,, I have a YouTube series called Industry Xposed, where I offer advice to aspiring industry creatives such as self tape advice, money management, and even behind the scene showcasing the world through my eyes from my travel and lifestyle videos.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is the freedom that comes with it. I get to wake up everyday and CREATE. I get to express my self in different creative ways daily. I am a trained dancer so I love to express myself through my body, or through music whether i am DJing or producing. I love to make people laugh so writing different comedic skits and shorts are a new love of mine. I also hope to be on the Stand-Up Comedy stage as well. It is fun for me to wake up and choose how I want to express myself that day. I am not the best singer or painter but those are other ways I enjoy expressing myself creatively.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
The most important thing anyone has to know about building their social media are two words, Patience, and Consistency. Have the drive to continue to post even if your engagement or viewership are low. When you are building a platform from scratch it may take a while for audience to catch on. However, if you continue to post and study how you can make your videos better. Whether it be tightening up your editing or learning great hooks to make your videos more engaging, are both great tips. I know a lot of people say find a niche and stick to it but I am someone who does a lot. So since I don’t just do one thing in life, I want to stay true to who I am and also not have the pressure to only post one type of content. So I don’t necessarily have a niche, but with that said stay true to who you are and that always pays off more in the long run. Lastly, have patience because the growth you want to see may takes months or it could take years, everyones process is different. If I could leave you with one last thing it would be to NOT GIVE UP! Once you give up , all your hard work goes out the door, but I promise if you stick to it, you will get to where you want to be!
