We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tierra Jones a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Tierra thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you think folks should manage their own social media or hire a professional? What do you do?
I manage my own social media. I made that choice because nobody will market your business like you. My results have been good because a lot of people engage on my social media. If you are a business owner thinking about what to do just go for it stay motivated an do it you can do anything you put your mind to.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Tierra Jones. I have a daughter name Kennedi she 11 years old. I am the CEO of iSlayTierraExtensions. I love beauty. I love making women beautiful and feel beautiful my dream is to own a very successful beauty bar a one stop shop salon. When I first started my business I didn’t have a dollar to start. I told my father my vision and he invested in my business I had no clue what I was doing so I purchased all raw Indian hair which was very expensive so I had to sell it at a high price to at least make a small profit. I start doing my research, I learned more about the hair game. I did a $100 sale I didn’t care if I only made $20 I wanted to get my name recognized and that’s exactly what happen. When your a entrepreneur you have to take chances you can’t be scared to take chances. My brand speaks for itself so I knew I would gain customers from the sale. I started off selling only raw hair, then I ventured off and started selling Malaysian hair, Vietnamese hair, Human hair, hair products, hair accessories and hot tools.
Alright – let’s talk about marketing or sales – do you have any fun stories about a risk you’ve taken or something else exciting on the sales and marketing side?
The “Keep it 100 sale is what really put me in the map. I picked my favorite textures took pictures wearing it an did the sale. So many people took advantage I offered 3 bundles and a closure which normally cost $200 or more but I sold it for $100 word of mouth had my whole city purchasing my brand some sales I didn’t make no profit but that wasn’t the goal the goal was to get people to wear my brand and become repeat customers and which they did :)
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to learn being a business owner is never get discouraged if business is slow sometimes your going to have times when business is slow still continue to promote your business no matter what I remember a time my business didn’t get one sale that month I ran a sale, did some marketing an then my sales where back great!
