Tierra, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about your team building process? How did you recruit and train your team and knowing what you know now would you have done anything differently?
I started my business in 2012.
I was a sole serial entrepreneur for several years.
When I resigned form my
Job June 2023.
I was solo.
I found myself working around the clock from June 2023-April 2024.
I needed to do something different,I was exhausted.
I decided to bring on several sub-contractors and also independent team contractors.
I am seeing a increase in my company bottom line and my clients are experiencing top tier customer service.
Tierra, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Distinctive started in 2012.
We started offering Advertising,Marketing,Public Relations and Corporate events.
We are now MBE and WBE since 2022.
We now have (3) local contracts and we are currently bidding on larger state projects.
We are excited to be bidding on larger projects and we are expecting to win T least (2) contracts in 2024.
I’m currently bidding now with a team of experienced,certified and knowledgeable people.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
When I started my business in 2012.
I have self-funded.
I have never had an investor or raised capital.
I utilized my 8-5pm income which was a great income to invest into my business and ideas over the years.
For people who have trouble raising capital,I suggest you use your 8-5p job to invest into your business.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
The lesson I have learned is to develop strategic partnerships.
Do not ever go alone.
The quickest and smartest way to success is through collaboration with partners who have skills,experience and a good work ethic.
