We were lucky to catch up with Tierney Royal recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tierney, appreciate you joining us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
I always wanted to own and operate my own restaurant. I have been working for Fortune 500 companies since college and I was comfortable with my earnings. I started a family and became complacent. One day I made some sweets and they were eaten on Facebook live and everyone went crazy over them. I started backing from home and cooking on the side. I was going to pop up shops and selling my Signature pasta and desserts. After getting laid off from my job; I decided I wasn’t going to go and apply for any more jobs. I decided to purchase a food truck. I went through all of the requirements to get it open and set up my first location in the parking lot from the job I was laid off from.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Tierney Royal. I am the owner and operator of Queen Eats and Royal Treats. We operate and serve out of food tuck. We also offer catering services and private event services. We have provided food for large companies with over 500 employees. We offer a variety of foods and homemade desserts. We have also had the pleasure of working a concession stand at LSU in Tiger stadium. We customize our menus based on the customers desire. We have a barbecue sauce that we offer with our famous fried chicken wings. We are known for our loaded pound cake and homemade cheesecakes. We offer pastas, barbecue, and soul food. I gave a business background with 10 years in the banking industry and business certifications from Harvard University.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
We believe in treating customers like want to be treated and making customers feel like family. Along with understanding our customers needs and being able to create menus that allow us to serve them with a taste of Royalty. Presentation and communication is everything.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
I believe in presentation. People eat with their eyes. When I take pictures of my food; I make sure it would be eye catching and mouth watering. I also believe in proper attire when serving. When people come to our trailer; they can expect us to look professional.
