We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tierika Moore-Williams. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tierika below.
Tierika , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I learned to do what I do on my own with playing around on my phone. My friend Diego was the first to put a camera in my hand to take what I was doing to the next level. Knowing what I know now I definitely would have locked in more and buckled down with learning the ins and outs of creating. Editing and building blueprints are the most essential to me. The only obstacles that stood off the way of me learning more was getting pregnant in 2020.
Tierika , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am Tierika and I go by The90sBuzz. I specialize in 90s aesthetics. I also double as a creative director and content creator. I got into this line of work because I wanted to create the type of content I wanted to see online. I offer creative direction and promotional material to artists and brands. What sets me apart from others is that I literally live a 90s lifestyle everyday, I’m talking about from the hair all the way to the clothing. I create “a day in my life videos” which shows me navigating through the 90s in todays world. The creativity in it intrigues others then I build visual concepts for them. The thing that I am the most proud of is having strangers see my vision and love it. Being able to unlock memories of my followers and supporters. Another proud thing is having artists trust me and my vision for their projects.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I built my social media presence by trusting a friend. She kept trying to get me to post my videos on TikTok and IG and I was like “no ma’am…that’s for kids, I’m to old.” She asked me to just try it. I tried it and woke up to text messages of people saying I was on their fyp and I didn’t even know what fyp was at that moment. People started tagging other creatives saying y’all should collaborate. After checking them out I found a community of people just like me and the views just went up from there. My advice to anyone getting started is to have fun and do it because you love it. The fans and views will come in time. People love authentic content so just be yourself.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
Something non-creatives would struggle to understand is how much actually goes into this journey. I’m talking about time and money. I research everything so my content is as accurate as possible. I invest in the clothing, the equipment, the props, the hair hair, pretty much the whole nine. I also spend my time watching homemade 90s videos, videos and movies from the 90s, and editorial videos.
