Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tieranee Gordan. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Tieranee, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Who is your hero and why? What lessons have you learned from them and how have they influenced your journey?
My hero would definitely be my beautiful mom! My mom has a heart of pure gold and a kind spirit that is beyond contagious. If you have ever met my mom you’ll know that she’s the absolute sweetest person you’ll ever meet. She’ll literally give a stranger her last on any given day.
Growing up my mom was a single parent. She went through an ample amount of trials and tribulations. I’ve seen my mom struggle, I mean literally get it out the MUD! She’s been hurt, discouraged, let down ,and even doubted but she NEVER EVER gave up. She had two kids at an early age and I still to this day dont see how we made it. We never went without a meal, clothing, or basic necessities because of her sacrifices and for that im forever grateful. Thank you Mom!
A lesson that my mom has taught me is to never give up. Especially when obstacles come you way. I can overcome anything as long as I have FAITH (her favorite word). TeekieDesigns has been in business for a little over three years now and to be honest as a business owner you can easily become discouraged. Some days you’re tired, overwhelmed, spaced out, happy, mad, literally over all over place. With all of those emotions hitting you at once sometimes you want to give up. My mom is literally my saving grace. Somehow she eases my chaotic spirit with just a simple conversation. She literally has all the right words. She also lets me know that it’s okay to keep a break sometimes to take care of me. She often asks “How can you be your best self if you dont take care of your self?” Having a supportive foundation is very important when having a business. My mom has seen me at my lowest and also at my best self, having someone there to always push you is top-tier and highly recommended.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hello,
My name is Tieranee Gordan, I started TeekieDesigns a little over three years ago after the passing of my grandfathers passing. After his passing I needed something to occupy my mind. I initially wanted to start a clothing line but them thought to myself “I can make the clothes myself.” After watching tons and tons of YouTube videos and thousands of mistakes Teekiedesigns was born.
Teekiedesigns sells all things custom. We can customize literally anything from a shower curtain to a doormat. We do it all!
I am most proud about the growth that Teekiedesigns has experienced. TeekieDesigns started with just doing custom t-shirts. Now we offer a wide variety of items that can be customized. The sky is the limit.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Honesly, The best source of new clients for me has been from TikTok! Customers on TikTok are very involved with your business especially if you post content everyday. Customers love to ask questions and it’s easy as a creator to answer questions with a simple video, and I love that because if one person has a question im sure someone else was thinking the same thing. TikTok also has all of the new trends which keep you up to date on what’s happening in the world.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson that I had to unlearn is being “independent”. Running a small business can be very demanding stressful at times. Growing up with a single parent I often watched her do so many things on her own and I must admit,I wanted to be the same way. Not knowing how unhealthy this mentality can be. Holiday seasons are always busy for me and for some reason I never ask for help and end up crashing real hard. I mean just exhausted. I had to learn how to ask my family and friends for help and they are always down. Especially my husband. He wants to learn how to make everything on his own. This lesson was important for me to unlearn because I thought that asking for help was a sign of weakness, when it’s not. It’s important for you to use all of the resources that you have so that you can be the best you.
