We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tiara Pullen a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Tiara, appreciate you joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
For many years, I faced challenges in finding effective products for me that offered nourishment and repair without harsh chemicals or synthetic ingredients.the struggle not only impacted my appearance, but my self-esteem and confidence. Determined to find a solution, I began formulating my own hair and skin products allowing me to reconnect and embrace myself. Upon creating my business, I realized that many mainstream hair and skincare products weren’t truly made with us in mind, black women, women with textured hair, melanated skin and specific generational needs. I wasn’t just solving a problem of dry skin or brittle hair; I was addressing a deeper lack of cultural care and intentionality in beauty products. What excited me most was creating something that felt sacred. Rich handmade products that nourish, protect and honor. My approach is unique because I don’t just make the products, I craft experiences rooted in wellness.

Tiara, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hello everyone, I am Tiara, the founder of Divinity’s beauty a brand born out of my passion for natural self-care. As a Memphis native with a background in public health and a deep love for holistic wellness, I started this journey by crafting solutions for my own hair and skin, which led me to develop nourishing, handmade products for others. Today I offer hair oils, whipped body butters, and other self-care essentials designed to moisturize, restore, and promote growth-especially for black women who deserve products made with them in mind. I solve everyday problems like dryness, breakage, and lack of moisture while helping my clients build intentional beauty routines that feel sacred. What I’m most proud of is creating a brand rooted in love, culture, and care.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
I believe that the most effective strategy for growing your clientele is listening and engage with them. When you listen and engage you understand their wants and needs. Knowing and hearing what they like, dislike let’s them know that you care.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
When I first started creating my products, I had someone saying that to me “Everybody makes body butter and oils..yours won’t stand out.” But I knew different. I wasn’t just making products, I kept showing up, late nights and early mornings researching ,mixing, and praying over each batch. I believed I was building even when others didn’t.
