We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tiara Holloway a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Tiara, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to start by getting your thoughts on what you are seeing as some the biggest trends emerging in your industry
Biggest trends with furniture is functional of furniture pieces. Example, a sectional and being able to change the layout or adding an ottoman to the sectional. Or new fabric that is velvet and it’s indoor and outdoor fabrics. Very rich in color and textures as well. New fabric colors that are rich in color and speaks and tells a story of the material. The fabric line is by NGALA Trading. They will provide so many animal prints with blacks, oranges, blues, purples and more. It’s colors that a client wouldn’t even think to pair together or put on a sofa or chaise. Love every new tread these fabrics for indoor and outdoor.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hello,
My name is Tiara R Holloway, from Richmond, VA. I’m a license Interior Designer here in the metro area for the last 12 years. I just celebrated my 12 year in business on October 15th. Excited and couldn’t be more blessed to be where I am. I started out in design not knowing what it was when I was younger. Others have heard the story before of me getting in trouble with my dad when he would leave to go play golf. I would go our family room and organized his things and hang wallpaper. My mother would just shake her head and say I’ll be in trouble. Not knowing what I was doing at a young age would lead me to having a business and completing over 45 spaces for clients. Right, crazy, huh. This gift and passion has lead me to partner with Value City Furniture, Mattress Firm, Houzz, R-Home, interviewed as well with HGTV producers. I’ve walked in the same room with other designers and can bump shoulders and say that’s my sister or brother.
Problem solving with clients is a task that every designers has to experience. We will solve a problem without a client even knowing. From a item being broken and we replace it. To delivery time-frame with white glove delivery as well or the item you order is just wrong.
What has set me a part from my peers is that I use BLACK a lot. Black is my signature in my design. Some clients do request no black, but I try my best to add it in even if it’s a frame black. :)
I’m very proud of my self because when I got a no I didn’t allow that to stop me. I kept going and going. I knew one day a door would open by God and he would keep me and my business.
Be on the look out for our RVA Design Group located here in Richmond, VA. We are having our first Black-Tie Gala in Network for other designers and other business owners in our industry. As, far as Vivacious Interior by Tiara keep a look out for my name and pillow collection dropping soon.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
How to build your audience is so important these days. Social Media is a pay-check for those who work hard. Read that again! Social-Media is a Pay-Check! As Beyonce has said many times. Best revenged is your paper.
I always tell business owners who are just starting out post and show what your skill is. Don’t sit on it because it’s not benefiting you or that potential client.

How’d you think through whether to sell directly on your own site or through a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc.
Yes, I do have items on my Amazon Storefront and Walmart Storefront as well. I love to share where I purchased items from. My storefront with Amazon is https://www.amazon.com/shop/vivaciousinteriorbytiara and my Walmart storefront is https://www.walmartcreator.com/storefront/VivaciousInterior.
Who doesn’t like shopping at these two locations. I know I do. It’s fashion and home stylist finds. It will also have you saving items in your cart until your next pay-day.
My goal is to continue to produce the items and share them on my IG feed for others.
