We recently connected with Tiara Deahn Thornton and have shared our conversation below.
Tiara Deahn, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
A meaningful project I started in October 2022 when I hosted my first Tea Time with Tiara Deahn during Arizona Fashion Week. This event was a live panel with four other women that are making waves in the Arizona fashion community. The discussion was about Female Leadership and Inclusivity in Fashion.
I hosted my second Tea Time panel, March Into Your Beauty in March 2023. We started off with a spring makeup look by Gabi Villata followed by a beauty panel with Jasmine Mobley of Beauty of the Nile.
The live events have been so successful, that I’ll be converting Tea Time into a Podcast while hosting live panel discussions throughout the year.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
What I am most proud of is being able to adapt to the ever-changing social media landscapes.
Over ten years ago, I started by beauty blog, sassycurls.com and created my YouTube channel, SassyCurlsTV.
I do my best to contribute positive and meaningful content for all types of women.
The mission of Sassy Curls is to help women embrace their individuality, value their self-worth, and discover their dreams.
“Here’s to always being your B.E.S.T! Be Fashionable, Embrace Individuality, Stay Classy, Treat Yourself,” is the theme for my brand.
I am grateful more voices are being brought to the table. The more we seek to understand and embrace our individuality, the faster we can grow and love ourselves and each other.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
The best way society can support artists and creatives is to vote with their wallets. If money, is something you are unable to contribute at times, promoting a brand on your stories costs you nothing.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
When I need to be grounded, I read the essay. “Wear Sunscreen,” By Mary Schmich. There is also an audio version from a music video, “Wear Sunscreen,” voiced by Buz Luhrmann.
The simple lessons are so impactful that I find they are still relevant today.
For books, “All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten” By Robert Fulghum
