We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tianna Roser a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Tianna , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
My professional career closely mirrors my own personal development. As an energy healer, I come from a perspective that everything is energy. Therefore, my business is a reflection of my energy. It’s highly important for me to keep growing personally and spiritually. As I evolve, my business expands. So, the defining moments in my professional career go hand-in-hand with my own personal transformation.
When I first started Awakening Transformation, I didn’t want the business to be about me. It was about the people I wanted to support through the services I offered. For the first several years in my business, I didn’t share much about my own spiritual awakening. Reflecting back, I think there was also the fear of being judged and branded as a weirdo! Finally at one point I realized I can actually help more people by sharing my spiritual experiences and authentically expressing who I Am, because then potential clients can better discern if we’re a good fit.
The Universe gave me a nudge with an opportunity to be on my first podcast interview in 2016. I was so nervous, but people responded very positively to the episode. They related to what I thought were my odd stories and actually felt more comfortable reaching out after hearing me talk. This seems so obvious to me now, but at the time I hadn’t fully understood how opening up and sharing so personally could engender trust with potential clients. People could see that I’ve been walking the spiritual path they were embarking upon and have the skills and awareness to guide them on their journey.
When a new client comes in, I’m entrusted with hearing their whole life story in a mere hour or two. It’s a privilege that I don’t take lightly. It makes sense that some of them might want to first hear my story before deciding whether or not they want to work with me. It can feel safer to open up to someone who gets you. I can’t count how many times a client has said, “This is going to sound completely crazy, but…” And I laugh and tell them that nothing sounds crazy to me because I’ve either experienced it myself or one of my other clients surely has!
That first podcast interview led to more opportunities, eventually becoming a co-host of my own podcast and then writing a book. Being willing to share more of my personal experiences publicly has been a game changer for my business. So many new clients come to me now feeling as if they already know me from listening to our podcast or from having read my book. It’s fun and sometimes a little bizarre to have a complete stranger know all my weird spiritual stories. It’s also freeing in a way, because the people who resonate with me will reach out and those who think I’m a nutcase won’t. To be successful in your own business, you need to accept that you’re unique and not for everyone.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hi, My name is pronounced Tie-Anna, rhymes with Diana. I’m certified in a number of transformational practices, including Reiki, Hypnosis, Past Life Regression, Life Between Lives Regression, Quantum Healing Hypnosis Technique (QHHT), and Soul Plan Reading. My soul’s purpose is to empower people through awakening consciousness. I use tools and processes to help people experience their true self, the source of real healing and growth. I work a lot with those who are awakening spiritually, helping them navigate this often confusing journey.
The tools I use with my clients are the ones I return to again and again myself, after many years on my own spiritual path. If you want to grow your consciousness and live a fulfilled life, the inner work never ends. However, it does get easier and more enjoyable. These processes have helped me tremendously to embody my higher self and live authentically. The practices form the basis of the way I help others find the answers and healing they seek. My work with clients ranges from essential practices like Inner Child healing and Shadow work, to connecting with their Spirit Guides. I’m also a Co-host of the podcast, “Beyond the Illusion” (an exploration of topics in the spiritual, mystical, ancient, forbidden and forgotten realms), and an author of the book, “Awakening Transformation: A Beginner’s Guide to Becoming Your Higher Self.”
If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
Without a doubt, if I could go back in time, I would choose the same profession. I say that with certainty because I did a lot of soul searching to get here. I know a lot of people struggle to figure out what’s the right profession for them. I certainly did. It took a journey of self discovery for me to ultimately find the work that feels like I was born to do it. Sometimes I have a sudden realization at work where it hits me, “This is my dream job.” I’m regularly humbled by the touching moments I get to share with my clients. I’m grateful to witness my clients’ soul transformations.
I didn’t start off in this field. In college I worked in hotels and also sold advertising for the university newspaper. After I received my degree in Business, I briefly worked in Marketing. I even managed a cafe for awhile and later ran a yoga center. I spent years trying different things to figure out what I was truly passionate about. So much of our life is at work and I didn’t want to look back one day and regret how I’d spent most of my time. I was seeking my life purpose, so it was necessary to keep experimenting until I was certain I’d found it.
I think society has it all backwards. People are willing to endure years of being miserable at a job they hate for the promise of living the good life when they retire at age 70! Who knows what could happen between now and then or what your health condition will be like at that age. How much of your vitality and fulfillment are you giving up for the security of working for someone else, doing something you don’t enjoy?
One of my favorite spiritual sayings is “Trust the process.” We can learn a lot just though the effort of trying to figure out what fulfills us. We get so focused on reaching a goal that we undervalue the gifts we receive through the process of getting there. Marcus Aurelius said, “The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way.” None of the jobs I tried and eventually left were necessarily mistakes. Each step along the way further refined my needs and abilities, and moved me closer to my life’s work.
Awakening Transformation is my ideal profession. I intentionally gave my business a name that could encompass many different types of services, all with the focus of empowering people to create the change they desire. My work isn’t always easy, but it’s exciting, inspiring, ever-changing. Each session is unique. Because I’m someone who’s motivated to keep evolving, I knew I’d continue to add more offerings over time. I’ll never outgrow my business because it progresses along with me.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
My hypnotherapy trainer told me she’d never seen anyone build their practice as quickly as me. After completing hypnotherapy training in California, I did a 6 month supervised internship in her low fee clinic. At the end of the 6 months, we got to retain any clients who wanted to continue with us in our own practice. I was fortunate to have a ready-made client base after finishing the internship. My business was quickly off to an amazing start and I loved my work.
Months later, my boyfriend was getting transferred for his job and we were moving to Texas. I had to start over in Austin, where I knew no one. Suddenly, I had all the time in the world and no clients. Overwhelmed and feeling guilty that I wasn’t contributing to our household income, I wasn’t sure how to build my practice from scratch. It was 2008, and the financial crisis magnified the challenges I faced. The more concerned I felt, the more marketing I would do. When that didn’t bring the results I expected after months of trying, I lost confidence in myself.
Should I give up? Maybe this was the wrong market for my business. Maybe I didn’t have what it takes to succeed in Texas. Obviously what I was doing wasn’t working. It was time to pivot. Energetically I knew that when I was coming from the energy of lack and fear, that energy doesn’t attract clients. Like attracts like. I needed to raise my vibration. I decided to take a part-time job so that I would relax, have some regular income, and feel better about contributing to our income.
I got a part-time job selling insurance, which is about the most un-Tianna job I can imagine! But the company paid for my training and licensing, provided full benefits and good hourly pay. I could do the job decently well, but I’m not going to be disingenuous and say I loved selling insurance. The fact that it wasn’t my favorite thing was a blessing, because it pushed me to get really serious about building my practice to a point where I could quit insurance. Now I had less time to spend on my own business, so I had to work smarter and got really focused in my practice. Slowly my clientele grew, and in less than a year I was able to quit the part-time job. I let my insurance licenses expire, knowing I would never need to go back to that again.
Sometimes we move two steps forward, one step back. People think that life is linear, and that we should always be moving upwards. But that’s not natural or realistic. Anytime we dip down, we assume it’s bad. Yet each time we fall down and find our way back up, we get stronger. When we meet a setback, we have to become more creative and persevere in order to move forward. The world we live in now is unstable. To be successful in these times requires fluidity, the ability to pivot and adapt to whatever life presents. Embrace the opportunity to pivot and you’ll grow in unexpected ways.
