Tianna, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?

Tianna Hill is the CEO of “The Divine Look”. She formed an interest in Cosmetology at the age of 9. Pursuing her dream to make others feel beautiful through beauty services; she attended Scarlet Oaks Cosmetology Program. She strived for excellence in every aspect by becoming Cosmetologist of the Year, and Student of the Month several times. During her transition through school, she learned about the “Sisterlock” industry from her mother’s passion to receive the hairstyle. As she watched the glow upon her mother’s face, and soon to be grandmother’s she knew that it was something she would love to learn as well. Her second year of college the “Sisterlock” brand held a course in Cincinnati. What an opportunity it was to learn this technique. As time went on, Tianna was able to gain clientele in the Cincinnati area as well as the Columbus area. Although Tianna knew the Cosmetology industry was her calling, she did not know she would be specializing in this particular sector. As time went on, she realized what information she could impart in her clients and other individuals wanting to learn the interlocking method, that did not have a Cosmetology background. “The Divine Look” was formed in 2018. In 2019, Tianna went became a full- time loctician. Her business has continued to develop and grow. The Divine Look is a loctician company with multiple locations and employees. Their mission is to provide excellent quality services to clients, while providing knowledge about healthy lock practices and maintenance. As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

The Divine Look is truly an act of obedience from me to God. “Divine” means Of God. Servicing others with the intention of making them feel good and look good is our job. Education about the locking process is our due diligence.

Entrepreneurship came to me at a very young age. I knew I wanted to service the beauty industry at 9 years of age. As years continued to fly by, my mom allowed me to attend Scarlet Oaks for their Cosmetology Program. I was licensed in 2011. I was so excited to learn, grow, and excel. I was Class Secretary of my Cosmetology Class and received many awards some included Student of the Month (multiple times), Cosmetologist of the Year Award, and Best Cosmetology Internship.

With how my little life continued to grow, along the way I learned about a protective style called “Sisterlocks”. My mom was very interested in this particular hairstyle, that for many was uncommon. Furthermore, I would engage with my mom’s Loctician about the process, as it oftentimes intrigued me. A few years later while engulfed in my college career, I decided to take the course along with my mother. I was very excited to announce that I could perform such a service. Having a Cosmetology license and interest, definitely gave me a lot of advantages within the industry. I started advertising my services via social media, running ads, and word of mouth, etc. During this transition, I was in college in Columbus, Ohio. I knew it would be tough gaining clients in that area. I started by contacting all of the Sisterlock Practitioners in the Ohio area first; to inform them that I was in the area and would love to connect. In the meantime, my Cincinnati clientele started to grow. I was in town 2-3 weekends, out of the month to service Sisterlock clients. As time went on, I noticed that there was some knowledge that individuals need rather they are an official practitioner or not. That is where teaching and consulting became more prominent. With my business degree, my original desire was to consult salon owners. I never knew that I would actually, consult a special niche industry. As my quality of work gleamed, speed increased, and my clientele grew swiftly before my eyes. In doing so, I was obedient in expanding my business to having a team. “The Divine Look Team” specializes in Microlocks and services the lock community. I am also able to teach others the skill along with business practices and tactics. Developing a team has been one of the best decisions I have made as a business owner. Living my purpose out, calmy, and respectively.

I am most proud of how far God has taken the company so far, and how he has taken Divine Look further than my eyes have and can see. The name and brand that “Divine Look” stands for. The fact that we serve our clients with excellence at all times. We provide them with hair care maintenance to last throughout their entire journey. We continue to hold their hand throughout the length of their journey. We inform them that they are not alone, while providing proper knowledge as well. What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?

I had to learn how to manage employees. Making sure I kept the business in mind at all times. Learning how to separate business and personal was very challenging for me in the beginning of the business. Now I have a better understanding, on how and what I need to do to prepare employees to service Divine Look clients the way that they need too.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?

Currently there has been a few sources for new clients coming our way. One is word of mouth and also our website. Search engines have allowed clients to find us very easily, when they are searching for someone to deliver the service.
