Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tianna Barber. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Tianna thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I’ve always known I wanted to be a creative since I was a kid, but it was in my mid twenties that I finally decided to just go for it. After going to school for a major I didn’t feel passionate about, working dead end job after dead end job, I finally had enough. I decided in December if 2020 to create my art instagram.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a self taught artists. I’ve been drawing as long as I can remember, and it was during the shut down that I decided I needed to create an online platform to display my talents.
I started off teaching myself Photoshop and Adobe illustrator—before the shit down, I was in school for multimedia web design, which was where I was initially introduced to Adobe software.
I started off doing a free logo for a dallas based fashion designer and I designed a t shirt for a client I found on Facebook.
I think what sets my apart from others is, while I’d love to be recognized by more people for my art, I’m not doing it for clout. I’m not interested in being a “social media artist/influencer.” I honestly hate being the center of attention. I want my work to speak for itself and I want my craft to be respected by any client I get, because I hold my work to a high regard.
Pursuing art has proven to be more of a personal journey than a professional journey, and I’m so proud of the discovers I’ve made about myself. Im beyond proud of the newfound confidence that I’ve found in myself and my art.
Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
I honestly don’t understand the point of them. They just seem like a greed-pissing contest. Like “look, I spent millions on this price and you can’t have it because this is the only one.” It’s just…nonsensical and unethical to me.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I’m determined to not be bored. I’ve realized that I spent a good chunk of my twenties bored with what I was doing with my life, and that’s both scary and relieving. I’m doing something about it before it’s too late.
