We were lucky to catch up with Tiana Taylor recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tiana , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you recount a story of an unexpected problem you’ve faced along the way?
The entire journey of being a content creator has been unexpected for me. I didn’t realize how much work and time it took. I wasn’t a social media person prior to content creating. I mean, I would scroll and like but I’d hardly ever post. The most I knew about hashtags was to use them to search for things. It never looked that hard when I saw other content creators posting. I would think to myself “Oh that’s easy. I could post everyday”. I didn’t realize that the algorithm, hashtags, geo tagging, engagement and all those things really played a factor. So initially I really struggled and still do sometimes. Trying to figure out what hashtags to use to just get people to notice my content was very overwhelming.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a content creator on Instagram and Tik Tok. I started out trying different places during the pandemic and eventually decided to make an Instagram page. Most of my content has been food reviews however I started branching into activities, travel and lifestyle as well. I never saw the page getting as big as it has or even being invited to places. I was initially very scared to start. I’m a perfectionist and an over thinker. Therefore I tend to talk myself out of doing certain things if I don’t feel I’m prepared. I knew nothing about being a content creator. I hesitated for a while about starting. Then I finally did it and it’s had its ups and downs as far as the learning process is concerned. However overall I’m so grateful and proud of the growth. I heard someone say once “Just start it and you can perfect it later” that’s the best advice I’ve ever been given. If someone who is an overthinker or perfectionist like me, that would be the advice I’d give them. Just start.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Sharing and word of mouth is free. I believe now days we deem support as having to buy or put money behind it in order for it to be considered support. That’s not the case. It doesn’t cost anything to share a post, like it, follow, or even tell someone else about it.

How did you build your audience on social media?
Man, I have truly been blessed when it comes to growing on social media. As I stated before I didn’t understand how to grow on social media. So I did the only thing I knew how to do and that was Google and research it. I spent so much time trying to figure out the hashtags. Then I came across other creators and reached out and asked them about any advice they had on how to grow. I was up late a lot of nights engaging with hashtags and other creators. I was posting originally about 4 times a week and it began to grow. I watched other creators pages on how they’d shoot their content and eventually found a groove on what worked best for me. I got invited to my first influencer event I just hit 600 followers. I tell people all the time it’s possible because I did it. After that event I felt a little bit more comfortable to reach out to places cause my page really started to grow after. My best advice would be to stay consistent. Even when it doesn’t look like anybody is seeing your work. They are.
