We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful TiaMundria Christmas. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with TiaMundria below.
Hi TiaMundria, thanks for joining us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I have always been self-taught in my creative process. I never believed there was a RIGHT way to make art. Suppose I could change the hands of time, I would go back and probably go ahead and watch Youtube tutorials. I wouldn’t watch for learning creative skills but for learning business-savvy skills. I believe talent is an essential skill but not as essential as business skills. I started my creative career while still in high school without much guidance on how to actually run a business. By the time I got to college and was able to look for help and learn, I had a lot of pride and ego, so that was a huge obstacle to overcome. These days I accept knowledge from a lot of great people I have met, and it has led me to where I am today.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
For those who don’t know me, I got into the business I am in today by taking pictures. I was the kid in middle school who always had a camera and used Picnik to edit different kinds of graphics. As my love for photography grew, so did my passion for graphic designing. Today, I am a graphic designer skilled in many different areas such as logo making, 2d animation, video editing, and 3d editing. The thing that sets me apart and keeps my clients returning is the attention I pay to detail. I am very hands-on when it comes to any commission. I like my clients to be a part of the designing process as much as possible. I want to ensure that vision is brought to life the way they see it. I am most proud of how far the quality has come in my work and the immense skill set I now acquire. There is not much on a computer I am not able to do, and I still can take some pretty mean pictures. I have become an all-around creative. I want all my potential clients and followers to know about this brand because it was built with two hands and stands on the highest idea of quality.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding part about being creative for me is creating something for someone and seeing the joy it brings them. I love having a client ready to utilize the work I do for them. Sometimes as a creative, it is easy to lose sight of the difference you’re sometimes making, so being able to walk into someone’s shop and see the logo is a great reminder. Just as well as any clothing brands I have been a part of making. Not only are my clients happy, but they also have clients who wear the logos out day to day, and it’s a great thing to see and feel to have.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
One story I have never really shared with anyone, but I will share with you guys, was a moment, maybe two years ago. I was in Atlanta at a party with Lil Durk and a few more names. I was very out of my element and unfocused because I had come to Atlanta to visit family; I didn’t realize I would also end up in the room with so many greats. I didn’t have any of my equipment and had to borrow some. With the kit, I could do a little something, but not enough to pivot me forward at the moment in my life. Upon coming home and releasing the work, I felt terrible. That is one moment in my whole career I felt like I should quit and never try again, but if I did, I wouldn’t have realized the other great things and opportunities I would have had. I also wouldn’t have had a moment to discover everything I could do better and precisely what and where I wanted to be.
