We were lucky to catch up with Tiaera Pritchett recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tiaera, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
After creating a for profit with my best friend to offer life coaching and personal training, we realized there were so many people who we had yet to reach who just simply couldn’t afford to live healthier. It sounds easy right?! Anywhere you get your news and information is constantly telling you how to lose weight or how to become a “healed” you; but, how do you do it if you don’t know specific steps to take? That’s where FIIT Families comes in. Fully Integrated to Inspire Transformation. We want to help the whole family achieve whole centered wellness. FIIT Families is a non-profit we created to allow the family to change from within in how they eat and think at no cost to them. Whole-centered wellness shouldn’t be a luxury that only a portion of the population can afford.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
When readers read about me before, I was the host of my own show, Truth Moment. Since then, I decided to take a step further. My Truth was that I wanted to created more change by not only using my words, like I had done for so many years through my show, but I also wanted to use my action. I had seen many clients who stated when they went to government issued care facilities, they felt like another number. They often had a different therapist each time they went for a session. It’s hard to develop rapport that way. So I sat down with my best friend and co business owner, who at the time was a personal trainer doing individual and group session, and I said there has to be more that we can do. I personally, after having four children have been working hard in a grove fitness and then life happened and I no longer felt inspired to workout. I had forgotten my “Why” and lost my drive. LaToya, my business partner, and I wanted people to see that it isn’t until you merge the two, mental and physical, that you’re able to truly achieve results…in multiple aspects and areas of your life. So we created All Things Fit. Through All Things Fit, we offer therapy, life coaching, personal training via group and individual. Clients have the option to sign up for both sides of the business in tandem or separately. We offer both in-person and virtual. In addition to being a NASM certified personal trainer, LaToya is also a weight loss specialist so she assists her clients with not only losing the weight but keeping it off. With all of these great services under one roof, there were many people out there that we wanted to help, who just couldn’t afford our services. Having a heart and passion for God’s people, we sat down and brainstormed on how we could do more. Having both being in clients’ shoes before with our own weight loss journeys and bouts with depression in the past, we wanted to create a safe landing place. It is through that observance of a need that FIIT Families, the non-profit, was birthed. FIIT Families adopts families who desire to lose weight and work on their mental health together to work, grow, and transform together. What makes us different is that with the goal setting and treatment plans, we don’t just focus on just weight loss or just mental health. We show the client the correlation of the two and assist wiht providing education on how one cannot be achieved without the other. We offer nutritional coaching once a month, as well as food vouchers to assist with healthier eating. Goals and progress are tracked to further confirm our hypothesis that one cannot maintain a healthy body without creating a healthy mind.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Over four years ago I was severely depressed. I hated my job, felt unsuccessful and ironically had to go to work everyday and help other people heal. I did this all while wearing a smile that wasn’t real. I had felt that I was letting everyone down. And the weird thing about it is that even in that low point, I had the highest retention rate of clients and the lowest turnover rate. My clients loved me, at a time where I didn’t love myself. I had to step away from therapy because I was burnt out. I’m talking completely empty. I did other jobs within mental health but still didn’t feel fulfilled. They were just that, jobs. There was no passion. It wasn’t until I became intentional about my time and understanding my higher sense of self, asking ME how I felt, checking in with me and doing the work to climb out of that hole, that I got better. I had to refill my vat. It had become empty over the years and I was completely depleted. Now, four years removed, I understand my happiness came with a price that I learned was far too expensive to neglect or shortchange again.
Any advice for managing a team?
I would say the best advice I have in that regard is to communicate. I’ve had this title at multiple agencies and it has always been important to keep open communication regarding the company, processes, expectations and requirements. You can’t just assume people know you, so naturally they should know what you mean or what you want. Be willing to share high notes and low points. Keeping a “peach and the pit” mentally. Everyone loves a “peach” moment. That means it’s sweet, everyone loves to hear when things are going well. But it’s also in the “pits” that we grow. We come back from it stronger than ever and learn to avoid the next one. And oh yeah…most importantly, remember…no one likes to be micromanaged. Build your business with a strong team who wants what you want for the business so that you don’t have to micromanage. This business is my child so naturally, I need to be able to trust my baby with you.
