We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tia Tate. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tia below.
Tia, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
I have always been creative and I wanted a outlet. Kobe, it was the perfect time in the brainstorm and figure out which creative Avenue. I wanted to take when showing my work to the world. I started off selling paintings and although it was fun it wasn’t scratching that creative itch that I haveit wasn’t scratching that creative itch that I had.. a light bulb went off and I thought fashion! Fashion.
Is timeless, it can be passed down throughout generations, and my work would live forever.
Tia, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I got into fashion by accident. I was selling paintings and painting was my first love but I didn’t feel fulfilled. I felt like I was on the right track but somethings missing. I wanted to be eternal. I wanted to create something everlasting. I thought fashion! I thought of how families pass around clothing. Moms to daughter, uncles to nephews, etc. I wanted my artwork to passed down. I create luxury crochet clothing and individualistic accessories. The thing I’m most proud of is how far I have gotten. I’ve overcome many obstacles in life and I’m so proud of myself for continuing to push. By doing this interview I am looking for potential customers, followers, and for new supporters.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
The moment I knew I was resilient was when I was growing up. Alot of people don’t know this about me but I have been through so much. From different hardships to being an outcast. No matter what I went through I never stopped chasing my goal simply because it was mine and no one else’s. I could water my dreams and they’ll grow but I can’t had over my vision. That’s something that’s unique and only mine. I held onto that.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
When I first started my business I did not believe a young black woman could obtain a grant. So, I saved up for 5 months. I was being consistent with my saving and disciplined. I am still trying to obtain a grant but I cycle the money from my business for photoshoots, etc.
