We were lucky to catch up with Tia King recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tia, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
I’ve always loved taking pictures. Once my oldest was born, I had her pictures taken every few months. By the time my second child was born, I had decided to start learning more about photography. My reason for learning more was to take pictures of my children. I also started taking pictures of nature and animals for more practice. As I learned more, I had family and friends would ask me to do pictures for them. The more support I received from friends and family the more I felt like I could succeed.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
As stated in the previous question, I started getting deeper into photography to learn to take better pictures of my children. At the time I started I had intention to start a business. It was more of a hobby. Taking pictures has always been a release to me. I feel relaxed while taking pictures, especially while being outdoors.
Just like my children being the reason I decided to get deeper in to photography, they are also the reason I decided to take it from a hobby to a business. I choose my business name by putting their nicknames together. I felt like it needed to be named after them since they are my reason.
I love working with families and giving them the pictures they want. I find joy in capturing memories for families to have for a lifetime. I do not mind including pets in the session or the session being just of pets.
I’ve also taken pictures of things in nature people have asked for me to photograph for them to use as decorations in their home. My favorite of these would have to be when I had a customer order a huge canvas of their aunts cow. It couldn’t have turned out more perfect.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I would say to goal that is driving my creative journey is being able to provide memories for families. There is something about seeing the smiles on a clients face when they receive their pictures.

Have you ever had to pivot?
I am currently in the middle of having to pivot with my life. I received a cancer diagnosis in December so I have had to put somethings on hold to focus on beating this. I haven’t been able to take pictures as much as I would like since my treatment has started. I am thankful to be able to participate in this interview. It has made me feel like I’m not completely neglecting my photography during this time.
