We were lucky to catch up with Thundermaier recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Thundermaier thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
As a band we have learned how to put on a great performance, put out great songs, and work towards our shared goals through failing fast, reaching lessons and successes quickly, and repeatedly within a limited time frame. Right now we are learning at a faster pace each day, so there isn’t much we could’ve done better. Something we continue to practice daily is focusing on our shared goals through being disciplined and consistent with our actions. The most essential skill for us is the act of being obsessed with our goal of becoming the biggest band on the planet, playing sold out stadiums across the world in front of billions of people, and creating and releasing many, many great songs that we love for everyone to experience and love.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
We’re an indie rock band from San Diego, California and we are obsessed with great music. The problem we solve is providing amazing ground breaking music and performances to a world that is hungry for great music. We are most proud of everything we’ve released and all of our performances. What we want people to know is this is just the beginning of our greatness. The indie, DIY music scene is ready to make Tsunami-like entrance across the planet, and our band will be leading this party wave.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
We started out as a few young kids making dying cat sounds with instruments in a garage. Our goal was and always has been to make the best songs known to man kind. We’ve come a long way and are confident we are achieving our goals. When we are old men, we will look back one day and be able to say “Damn, we did that. That’s pretty cool.”
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
We posted what we liked, stayed consistent, and stayed disciplined with releasing music. We are still doing the same and continue to see great growth. The advice we have is to just provide value in the way that you would want to be given value, and you will find the audience and people who are meant for you. We have an amazing fan of a few years who went back to a post from 3 years ago and asked us to turn that idea into a song. We totally forgot about it because it was a random doodle of an idea. Nevertheless, we turned it into a song, and love it. That fan is amazing. It’s super rad to find fans like that.
