We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Thornton White. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Thornton below.
Alright, Thornton thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Parents play a huge role in our development as youngsters and sometimes that impact follows us into adulthood and into our lives and careers. Looking back, what’s something you think you parents did right?
My parents taught me the importance of hard work, dedication, and willingness to learn. When I was in middle school, I really thought I was the fastest kid on the soccer field. I wasn’t. In fact, I was super slow. My father showed me on video and I realized that I had been seeing my perspective all wrong. I made a deal with my father to just have him admit that I was fast once I actually became fast. I decided to join cross country later that summer and it was treacherous but I pressed on towards the goal, which was to prove to my dad I could be fast. Side note: my dad never doubted I could become fast; just the thought of hearing him finally admit that I was fast was the fun of the journey. two more years go by and I had ended my cross country and track career in high school to fully focus on soccer. My father went to one of my games and it was one of my best games I played. After I met up with my father and my family, I heard say, “Okay son, you were pretty fast out there!” I was so glad! I said in response, “I told you!” He proceeded to tell me that he never doubted that I could become fast. I learned a valuable lesson throughout the years of trying to hear him say how fast I was: Hard work, dedication, and having a willingness to learn will take you far. Since then, I have been taking that same lesson in my time in exercising, running this start up, and my relationships with people to the best of my ability. My father was not only teaching me how important it is to examine yourself in the lens of truth but taught me how important it is to grow when you see an imperfection in your life. So when you have the power to change, make the effort to change.

Thornton, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I co-founded Money Magnet after a conversation with my business partner opened our eyes to a real gap in the market. We saw too many blue-collar service businesses—landscapers, cleaners, HVAC techs, you name it—getting overcharged and underserved regarding websites and tech support. They were paying premium prices for generic websites and getting little to no guidance on growing their businesses online. That didn’t sit right with us. So we built something better.
We created Money Magnet Solutions to give these businesses an affordable yet powerful alternative. We started with website design, but quickly expanded into technology consulting and software integration—because we realized that building a site is just one small part of building a business. Our clients don’t just need a digital brochure. They need tools, systems, and support to help them operate more efficiently, serve their customers better, and grow.
We offer tiered-subscription pricing so businesses can start small and scale as they grow. Whether it’s a two-page site with unlimited edits or a full-service package with AI integrations and advanced CRM tools, we make sure clients always get more value than they expect. That’s one of the things we’re most proud of—being able to grow alongside our clients and offer a level of service that feels like true partnership.
What sets us apart is our mindset around service. We believe in actual servitude—putting others first and showing up when it matters. Many companies use “service,” but don’t deliver when it counts. We do. If a client can’t afford the top-tier solution immediately, we still give them something valuable to get started. We don’t gatekeep good service behind big budgets. We believe in meeting people where they are and building from there.
We want potential clients to know that working with Money Magnet means you’re not just hiring someone to build a website. You’re gaining a tech partner who will handle the behind-the-scenes so you can focus on the bigger picture. We’re here to make tech simple, valuable, and accessible—and we’re proud to do that for the businesses that keep our communities running.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
We started Money Magnet with zero outside capital. Our only money came from internship savings, which we used to form our LLC. What’s wild is that we sold our first website before we even had one. Looking back, it was a bit wild, but it is also a perfect example of how we’ve operated since day one: lead with value and figure out the rest through service. That first client (who’s still with us today) took a chance on us because he saw our dedication. Even without a portfolio or online presence, we were focused on helping him solve real problems and grow his business. We believed in offering value first, even before helping ourselves, and that principle became the foundation of everything we’ve built since.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the biggest lessons I had to unlearn was that you need to have everything perfectly figured out before taking the first step. I was raised in a structured environment through school and early career paths, emphasizing planning, preparation, and having all the answers upfront. And to be fair, there’s value in that. It taught me discipline and how to think strategically.
But the downside was that I became overly focused on the planning stage. I had to have every piece in place before I could move. The truth is, that mindset can hold you back. Eventually, you must take a leap of faith and be willing to figure things out as you go.
A real turning point for me was when we sold our very first website—before we even had our own website. It felt unbelievable then, but it reminded me that action builds clarity. We didn’t have everything polished, but we were committed, and that commitment translated into real value for our first client. That experience taught me that forward motion, even if imperfect, is better than being stuck in planning forever.
