We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Thomas Swanson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Thomas below.
Thomas, appreciate you joining us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
Nothing taught me more than simply being dedicated to my craft. I have spent tens of thousands of hours doing music production and engineering for other people and important projects. Knowing the importance of working on someone else’s music, and living up to the trust that clients have in me has always pushed me to become better, therefore learning a lot along the way; and I continue to learn. I also attended Berklee College of Music online where I was able to fine tune my skills, and build confidence within my own standards.
Thomas, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I do music production and engineering, my job is to translate an artists idea into a song. I like to use my skill as an objective listener to create an original sound through engineering and production which listeners across the world find attractive.
I love the mechanics behind music, and have an appreciation of the power that is with a music engineer these days.
I have to make many critical decisions on the artists behalf so that a song can translate as musical as I can get it.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Work ethic, attention to detail, along with consistency. In the music business people appreciate that, and it can take you a long way. Attention to detail is important, because people notice details in songs, and I have benefited from my efforts in that regard because people now view me as a detail oriented music engineer and producer.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I have simply always wanted to be what I am now. From a young age, I believed it was my destiny to work in music. It is a very challenging career, but the challenge itself is what makes me proud to have accomplished it. I never take that for granted, and I will always remain focused on my creative journey so that I can be fulfilled as a creative.
In addition to my own personal desire to work in music, I also hope to achieve great results in everything I work on, and feel like I am helping the world be a better place with the music I am hired to work on.
