We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Thom Chamberlain. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Thom below.
Alright, Thom thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I took some classes at Villain Theater in Miami, FL and the reception I got from doing comedy convinced me to pursue it. I’ve come a long way since I started in 2022 and I can’t imagine myself stopping or going backwards.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I had avoided getting into my industry for a long time; I taught high school, I was an electrician, and worked distribution with medical cannabis before getting into comedy. I think comedians set out to provide a sense of comedic relief to the drudgery of every day routine and to help articulate what people are feeling.
I think I’m most proud of my accomplishments and my kindness-first approach to doing what I do. Within four months of starting comedy, I was offered to produce/host my own show at Savage Labs Wynwood. From there, I’ve been able to make so many connections with other comics in my community and around the country. I enjoy connecting artists with their audiences and because of that, I’ve built up a reputation of being a kind and easy-going personality, which I’m quite proud of.
I want potential fans and followers to come out to support live comedy by seeing my shows and/or booking me for private gigs. I have no doubt in my ability to give audiences of all sizes an easy laugh and a good time.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
I wish more local governments gave grant money to community venues that support the arts so that they could pay the artists for their time & talent.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
As much as I don’t care for doing improv, taking those classes really helped me take the leap and continues to make me a better comedian, actor, and host.
