We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Theresa Delarosa. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Theresa below.
Theresa, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
My name is Theresa and I am a local event and wedding coordinator in Kansas City, MO.
At the age of 13, my heart felt drawn to hospitality. I just wanted to serve others and love them well. That purpose has taken me to various career fields and when I finally decided to start my business it felt pretty dang natural. I place a huge emphasis on transparency and compatibility. I operate out of an abundance mindset now, (thanks to some really awesome mentors.) I always want to reassure future clients, brides and grooms that they need to hire a coordinator they trust, have fun and connect with. I know that my personality and the services I offer are not for every couple and that is ok! I empower potential clients, brides and grooms to research and choose the best coordinator or planner that meets their needs and budget. When you free yourself from the mentality of having to book every client, bride and groom out of necessity; it changes the game! I love knowing that the clients, brides and grooms that hire me, hire me out of genuine peace of mind, trust and connection! I want my clients to genuinely like me and want to spend 10+ hours with me on their special day or event.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I got intrigued by the event industry when I did a internship at a local church and one of my tasks was to assist with weekly and monthly events.
I fell in love with the process of creating a vision for an event and executing it.
There’s nothing like seeing an event that you’ve been planning for months, come to life. It’s the most adrenaline inducing thing you’ll ever encounter.
“Let me put my hair up and handle it” has been a tagline of mine 😂. I just love the rush that comes with figuring out a problem or executing a timeline on event day.
I provide check-in meeting with clients, brides and grooms. Timeline creation, assistance with wedding rehearsal and rehearsal dinner and event day coordination. I also registered as an officiant through American Marriage Ministries.
I’m just a girl who wants to be part of your special day anyway I can.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
To endure the daily grind of a event coordinator, I’ve learned that my mental, emotional and physical health needs to be my priority. And I’ve learned that as much as I want to help others on their special day, I have to help myself first.
Having a support system is incredibly important. Having family and friends that encourage you during the lows, the highs, the mundane moments of life; it’s all the greatest way I could fuel my perseverance and grit to do what I do.
I’ve also realized that I’ve had to truly know who I am and who I want to be so I’m not swayed by good or bad feedback and criticism. It’s really needed to have people around you who humble you and bring you back to earth when you need it 😂😊.
I’m nowhere near the perfect coordinator, but I know that in order to do my best work I need to do my best work in me.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I’ve had to unlearn that I’m not just another event coordinator. I’m me and there’s no one like me in the world. I truly think that’s what keeps pushing me to keep chasing this reality.
I think we can get discouraged and not pursue what we want to do because there’s already billions of people in the world who are already doing said talent or skill. I think that when you operate out of an abundance mindset, we realize that we can join “the table” too. Or just make our own 😊
