We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Theresa Cooley. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Theresa below.
Theresa, appreciate you joining us today. How did you get your first job in the field that you practice in today?
In 2008, I began exploring the field of aesthetics one day a week while continuing to work full-time as a Registered Nurse in a hospital setting. This decision was a turning point in my career journey, as I became increasingly fascinated by the intersection of healthcare and beauty, particularly the transformative potential of treatments like Botox.
Submitting my application for a per diem position was both thrilling and nerve-wracking, knowing it marked a significant departure from my previous nursing roles. Despite the excitement, I remained committed to leveraging my nursing background to provide exceptional care to clients seeking aesthetic treatments.
My early goals revolved around immersing myself in this specialized field while continuing to grow professionally. Balancing hospital duties with aesthetic work provided a sense of fulfillment, as I served both patients and clients alike.
The recruitment process brought a mix of nerves and anticipation. While I knew my nursing experience was a strong foundation, I understood the importance of proving my commitment and adaptability in this new realm. Attending trainings for procedures like dermal fillers and microneedling fueled my excitement and determination, each new skill acquired marking progress in my journey.
Reflecting on my beginnings in aesthetics, I’m grateful for the dynamic environment that shaped me into the practitioner I am today. Overcoming challenges, from mastering new techniques to building client relationships, has been incredibly rewarding.
As I consider dedicating more time and commitment to the world of aesthetics, I’m excited about the growth opportunities ahead. However, I’ll always prioritize continuous learning and practicing my medical skills to provide top-notch care in both realms.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m a Registered Nurse with 21 years of experience, having transitioned into a Nurse Practitioner role 15 years ago. Throughout my career, I’ve worked across various hospital and outpatient settings, specializing in Neurology. However, in 2008, I discovered a new passion in aesthetics, which started as a hobby but quickly grew into a fulfilling career path.
What sets me apart is my commitment to safety and personalized care. I prioritize attending specialized trainings to ensure that I can provide the best and safest treatments for my clients. Natural results are also a priority for me—I want my clients to feel confident and happy with their appearance while still looking like themselves.
At my practice, clients can expect a range of services tailored to their needs, from Botox and fillers to biostimulators, chemical peels, microneedling, radiofrequency, and skincare. My goal is for each client to leave feeling not only satisfied with their results but also comfortable and cared for in my space.
What I’m most proud of is the positive impact I’ve been able to make on my clients’ lives. Seeing their confidence grow and knowing that I played a part in that transformation brings me immense satisfaction.
Potential clients can trust that they’ll receive personalized, safe, and effective treatments at my practice. I strive to create a welcoming and comfortable environment where clients can feel confident in their decision to enhance their natural beauty.
If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
Without a doubt, I would choose the same profession and specialty again. Nursing has been incredibly rewarding, allowing me to make a positive impact on the lives of others every day. Transitioning into aesthetics has only deepened my fulfillment, as I get to help clients feel more confident and comfortable in their own skin. It’s been a journey filled with growth, learning, and meaningful connections, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything else.
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
In addition to training and knowledge, interpersonal skills and empathy are crucial for succeeding in my field. Building strong rapport and trust with clients is essential for understanding their needs and goals, which ultimately leads to better outcomes. Effective communication skills also play a significant role in ensuring clients feel heard, understood, and informed about their treatments. Additionally, adaptability and the ability to stay current with industry trends and advancements are vital for providing the best possible care and staying competitive in the field.
