Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Theresa Brooks. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Theresa, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
I started in my mom’s house. Making a corner in my room, for what I thought at the time was just something to do. I would regularly go to the local nail shop were I would leave still feeling dissatisfied. So I went to the local CVS and bought the KISS Acrylic Kit. I went home opened up the kit and dived right in. I looked at all the YouTube I could so that I could understand what I was working with. At the time, nail school was not in my thoughts. As time went on and I became comfortable in laying acrylic, designs, manicures and pedicures. As time went on I had the idea to open a salon suite. To do that I would need a manicure license. So i went to school at the top of Covid. Graduated in 2021 from LeSprit Academy. While attending Lesprit I thought to myself, you can teach. So after graduating in June 2021 I was back in class for the Instructor course in April 2022. I’m now a licensed Nail Technician and Instructor.
Theresa, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m a nail artist that specializes in acrylic sculptured nails. Meaning I don’t use plastic tips to get the look you want. I use nail forms. I want my clients, anyone who crosses my path feel welcomed. I take pride in my work because when I was younger and would visit the local nail shops I would always leave the shop, “like ugh, this is not what I said I wanted”. I don’t want anyone to feel like that leaving my shop.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I started gaining a media presence by first making accounts on the most popular apps- Facebook, tiktok, Twitter even LinkedIn. I would post something everyday using hashtags and offering clients deals when they would tag ne and one of there friends would follow me. Post even when you think it’s not worth posting.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
From me being a on time nail tech to caring how the finished look looks. I take pride in my work. That work ethic I have and give to my clients is top tier.
