We were lucky to catch up with Theres Porter recently and have shared our conversation below.
Theres, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
A legacy is definitely not anything I had considered or even thought of previously. In the corporate world, It was all about the grind! Getting as much work done as possible and waiting for the next weekend to come around. I, like so many, was caught in the hamster wheel of the corporate world hustle.
Now that I have stepped away from that busy and hectic life style to focus on creating something from a passion, I can definitely say that my legacy is something that has come up in conversation. It wasn’t until that moment even that a friend had questioned me about a legacy that I had put real thought into what it is that will remain after I am gone.
I find myself now being very mindful and much more aware or my actions and the reactions that will flow out from them. Just like the opening line in my book ‘Guided: Life long self-awareness techniques to raise your vibration and bring you more joy’ that says “I will carefully curate this content so that others can mindfully implement it”, I take great care in all that I release.
Whether it be a podcast, a social media post, sessions with clients or the book that I am currently working on, I see the impact that all of this can have on others. I want to make sure that everything will be something for the betterment of everyone who’s path it happens to cross.
My moto is to leave people better then when they found me. This means that no matter the time spent or the purpose, I want to make a positive impact in the life of everyone I encounter. It doesn’t matter if it’s through my work, while waiting in line at a check-out, or simply walking past, I am fully aware of just how much a simple smile can change the trajectory for someone’s day. I always smile and say hello. I like to have small and positive conversations when possible. I like to look at every moment as an opportunity to create light along someone’s path.
When thinking of my legacy, it may seem simple but, I look at it more as an opportunity to create a life that may be remember for the work I leave behind but better yet will be felt more on an energetic level for the joy I hoped to spread to those I was blessed to cross paths with.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
In terms of my work, I wear many hats! I am very blessed to have the abilities that I do and to have been lead done multiple paths of creating and co-creating.
Starting with my writing, I am an Author with one book published and one currently in the works. My book “Guided: Life long self-awareness techniques to raise your vibration and bring you more joy” is self explained with it’s subtitle. It is a series of tasks carefully spread out in a specific order over several weeks to help people re-evaluate their beliefs and structured ways of being and seeing the world to learn how to let go of what holds them back so that they can push forward in the most positive and beneficial way possible.
My coaching is something that has great range. Here I work to assist people in their personal lives, I work with companies for progression and direction, and I also work with other individuals, like myself, with abilities who are looking to understand, control and grow within the gifts they have.
I have also expanded this out into courses. I touch on subject for personal growth that are suitable for anyone, and teaching the function and basics of items like pendulums, dowsing rods, and tarot cards. I like to lift the woo woo part of these items to bring a better understanding of how they can be a beautiful complement for anyone wanting to understand, have a little fun, or use them as a beautiful part of their own practice.
I also teach courses on abilities. I actually have one that will be starting this March. With all my courses being online, I always get people joining from all around the world. It makes it fun and easy to help people understand, control, and further there own gifts in a safe space where they aren’t limited by location. I like to key in to each persons specific gifts and how to assist them along the journey of discovery and progression for what is best for them and definitely with no expectations or comparisons to my own abilities. I very much understand that each person will differ from the last with good reason! Variety is required to ensure everyone can find someone that ‘works’ for them. That makes them comfortable. Just like when we are searching for a therapist or counsellor, we may not jive with the first one. They all present differently. They all have there own ways of and of not working and interacting with their clients. Having abilities and working with clients is the same. Not everyone you come across will feel you are the best fit. This is something I teach my students to understand and be ok with. Those who are meant for you, will find you!
When it comes to my podcast, I love this to be a platform where others can share in what brings them joy along with the sharing of information within what it is they do that could be helpful for the listeners.
I also use it to help explain my own abilities and why it’s something that has brought me so much joy.
Ultimately the goal is to help people share the wisdom they have, explain how joy is no one set path but whatever lights you up, and to help in removing the stigma behind mediumship, channels, psychic abilities and items of divination.
Lastly, and most importantly, my abilities! My abilities are where all of this started. without them, I definitely would not have created all that I just spoke on. They are at the core of everything I do and create. I see myself as very blessed and grateful for the gifts I have. I am very lucky that they are as varied as they are, allowing me to never know what direction my day could go. I connect with past loved ones, answer directional questions, guidance for the highest good, discuss what my guides show in terms of best dietary choices dependent on the individual, assist with animals, energy heling and alignments, blessings of people, places, items, and land, and I also assist with hauntings and attachments. I also will channel my guides and those of my clients.
When someone asks me if there’s a question that I wouldn’t be able to answer or a direction I wouldn’t be able to assist in, I always like to say ‘Ask and let’s see!”. With all my connections being for the highest good of all, I am happy to see what comes from each and every connection.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to unlearn that I wasn’t good enough. That I couldn’t. Plain and simple, that I wasn’t able to hit the “bar” in the eyes of those around me.
I grew up in a very abusive home. I was made to feel not good enough since I can remember. I was constantly berated and yelled at. My first relationship wasn’t much different. It was abusive. I was very young and again controlled with the constant reminder that I wasn’t good enough. That everything I did was wrong and that I would be nothing and nowhere without them.
My journey away from this belief started with needing to cut away the people who reinforced it the most. I found peace within the experiences and was able to learn from them. With those who showed me so much cruelty, I forgave but choose to walk away from them completely understanding that not only would they never change but that they would never be able to be in my life without adding toxicity.
Not everyone’s journey requires walking away from people or cutting them out but I do believe that just like everything, sometimes relationships meet there end. It’s important to recognize when this happens and to not drag it out more then needed. To not create more hurt in a space that needs growth.
For me, I had to realize the patterns they were creating and that I was choosing to carry. I had to see them for everything they were and what purpose they had by staying in my life. I had to recognize the beliefs I was choosing to give recognition to and hold as I moved along my path. I had to, more then anything, understand that moving forward from that spot, that it was up to me to continue or do what was needed to better my life for me.
It was a long journey. One that was filled with pain and tears but ultimately growth. It gave me such an incredible understanding of myself and knowledge that I will be forever grateful for. I couldn’t see then the benefit of a path filled with pain on so many levels but I now can show gratitude.
With every individual who comes to speak to me or looking for guidance, I am not only able to provide them with what my guides show me but also with a greater empathy for what they have experienced themselves thanks to my own experiences. It has all turned from something that once created so much anger and hurt inside of me into something of beauty and gratitude.
Difficult times in our lives are simply that, difficult. When we are in the thick of the storm, it can be next to impossible to see how they can create beauty but just as a storm will pass, so will our pain, and the floods will clear to allow flowers to grow. The goal through it all is to just stay above the water and remind ourselves that just as the sun falls away from the day, so will our pain. The best outcome is to take away from the experience what we can, learn, and let go of the rest.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
When I first, and with not much notice, decided to leave the corporate world to follow a journey of self-discovery and creation with my abilities, it was definitely not taken well by those around me.
Going back to when I first decided to leave my corporate job, not only was I provided options for staying with the company that I had to pass on, but I was also walking away from benefits, a pension, and a steady paycheck. When I opened up to my pears on why I was leaving, I was met with an immense amount of judgement. Then I decided to stop sharing with them and start explaining to my friends what I was doing. I quickly was faced with much of the same judgement but also valid questions on how I would be able to make money and keep a roof over my families head.
With the understanding that I was doing what I new was right for me, it was here that I had to see the bigger picture for what it was. That it doesn’t matter who you are or what direction it is you are going in, If no one else can see the value in your path you are walking, it doesn’t matter cause you’re the one walking it. The biggest decider in our success is where your heads at and where we let others take it. Everything is a choice. We need to make sure we are choosing carefully!
Even to this day, I have people who ask me if I’m “going back to work soon”. I have been at private gatherings where people are embarrassed by me and what I do and have even asked me to not mention my work. As much as this isn’t nice for anyone to experience, me included, I don’t let it drive me away from everything I have created and am so proud of.
I understand that, just like any career, what I do is not for everyone and THATS OK!
It’s ok if people don’t like what I do. It’s ok if people don’t see the value in my work. It’s ok if this isn’t for everyone. What is important is that it’s what’s right for me and what light’s me up. The path I walk is definitely unique. I don’t focus on our differences. I accept them for what they are and show interest in where we do meet with a mutual respect required. If they can’t respect me, then I move on. Simple!
The biggest takeaway I could ask for someone to have from my story shared here would be to know and honor yourself and what is important for and to you. To know that differences are ok and very much needed. It’s not about who’s right or wrong, or whether something worked out or not, but rather did you at least try and what did you learn? What did you take on with your journey and what did you step away from gracefully without judgement? just as you don’t want to be judged yourself.
And especially to know that there is no mountain to big to climb when your happiness is what stands at the top.
This life is yours and it will be as amazing or miserable as you choose, so let go of what weighs on you poorly and embrace what light’s you up!
Never let what you think the world expects of you to keep you in a space you don’t belong.
