Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Theo Jones. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Theo, appreciate you joining us today. Setting up an independent practice is a daunting endeavor. Can you talk to us about what it was like for you – what were some of the main steps, challenges, etc.
I came up with the concept of Weekend Whitecoat in 2017 and officially started in 2018. Starting out I wanted to create a program that would be beneficial to patients and the provider healthcare was hard to come by because it took so long to get into a doctor’s office to be seen. Starting out I wish I knew a few key things 1. The business side of healthcare. The limits in place are taking options off the table for patients 2. The insurance companies looking to dictate patient care as an algorithm versus treating the patient as an individual 3. Have a fluid business plan. If it fails remold and pivot , it will not be perfect.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Weekend Whitecoat Concierge is a digital first health company that blends concierge convenience and old fashioned house calls of the early medicine years to provide in-depth physicals and urgent care visits to maintain optimal health for members and prospective clients. I set out to solve the issue of access and high quality preventive and primary care by making my model 24/7 I am also to provide care when needed the most. One of my favorite achievements is the Weekend Whitecoat App, it’s a house made platform created for members and patients to interact with me personally by video visit or video visit. They have regular access to their visit notes, digital trends of vitals and lab data. What really set me apart from my competitors Is the time and attention to details I can provide in this blended model of care. Only in your own practice can you walk to the closest pharmacy with your patient and hand pick vitamins and supplements that complement their needs based on labs.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
Yes ! The first book that made a huge Impact on me as an entrepreneur was the 4 hour work week by Tim Ferris. The reason I wanted to build a lean and flexible buiness that embraced the free thinking and free will of an untraditional patient and healthcare model. The second book that had an impact on me was the $100 start up by Chris Guillebeau.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The best tool you could ever have is excellently customer service and client relationships. This can be easily cultivated with great a great CRM. Clients that are satisfied tend to be the best marketing and referral you can think of. Pay attention to the details and it goes farther than you can expect.
