We were lucky to catch up with Thelma Osei recently and have shared our conversation below.
Thelma, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
I believe in parental investment; it is vital to raising successful children. Let us invest our life’s knowledge in the next generation. My beloved mother died in 2020, but her parental investment lives in her children. Success for me includes my children knowing their background (heritage) and their future (inheritance).
My dear mother imparted knowledge and, most importantly, her faith in her children. Her parental investment increased each of our likelihood to handle life and stand. Her faith taught us that all things are possible with Christ as our source. She invested spiritually, emotionally, psychologically, and so on. She took time to give understanding in matters and created an ethical will.
An ethical will is a personal document that expresses your values, experience, and life lessons to your family. It’s a type of voluntary will, unlike the legal will. It is a tool to pass down your principles, memories, spiritual values, and wishes for your family’s future. My beloved mother carefully wrote down her beliefs, faith, memories, and wishes for the future.
I mention this because it assisted me in life after her passing. I felt less disoriented because I knew her future wishes. All should invest in an ethical will; that is why I assist others in writing an ethical will. The investment of my mother has been beneficial to me. I can pass down her life’s values to my children. It helped me understand her better and explained what life meant to her. What courage meant to her, her life’s mission, and her family genealogy.
This knowledge helped secure my identity, allowing me to pass down our heritage and my mother’s stories and give my children a greater understanding of who they are. With that, it has pushed me to gain success in business and life.
Thelma, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
From now on, I am focusing on investments in others. Leaving a legacy of natural resources in land is unique. It provides benefits personally and to the natural habitat. Teaching the next generation to steward what’s given to them is essential. I assist in acquiring land and stewarding it so it can be generational. I hope to help others acquire land for legacy and business use. I teach the process and sell small acres for others to start.
Since my focus is generational, I design ethical wills for individuals. I explained earlier what that entails. Do not leave without sharing your life’s values, experiences, and wishes with your family. An ethical will is just as important as a legal will. It is one of the best gifts you can give your loved one.
Then as a pastor, I provide pastoral care. I support people spiritually. Journeying with them through coaching for emotional and spiritual health. Providing emotional and spiritual assistance is what I do. I journey with those who are grieving. Especially after the burial and the 90 days when others have moved on with their lives. There’s support through your grief and a safe place to share. We all experience loss, and having a place of safety to deal with it is comforting.
Investing through the ministry of presence in grief, investing through land acquisition, and investing through pastoral care and grief support.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Building relationships is all you need. We all have a story and come from different places. Get to know your client, what is their story and where are they headed. Communicate expectations clearly and ask for feedback as you journey together. Whether, I am helping to acquire land, write an ethical will or provide pastoral care. Each person has their story and reasons. When trust and rapport is established, you can ask for referrals. The client is your best advertiser, they share their experience with you, to others.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Never give up, you do not know what tomorrow brings. I recall when I started in the land business. I lacked funds, business credits, and the network. I started attending land conferences, which I still attend each year. I networked and asked many questions. At first, I was met with resistance. But when I kept pressing, eventually I found help.
After much prayers and research, I begin meeting the right people. The right people showed me how to start, where to purchase the land, and more. It took me a little over a year to gather all the information. I was able to make my first purchase with my mother in 2018. Sometimes, you may need to partner up to move forward.
