Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Thelma Nwaoha. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Thelma, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
Funny story is i never wanted to be an entrepreneur!!! It was not something i talked about at all , but i always enjoyed the idea of the entire lifecycle of a product, from ideation to development. I would watch some beauty influencers solely for the products and their thoughts on it and test them out. In February 2017 i randomly opened and instagram page “beauty by Thelma Tyrese” but i had no idea what i wanted to do with it, in-fact i never posted much on there besides memes sometimes. In 2019 my cousin reached out to me with some products she wanted to launch for her business and asked for my opinion and i thought they were some really good quality. She said i should start doing it as well but still didn’t take it seriously!!! not until when her supplier was always reaching out to me then was i forced to pay attention. The more i paid i attention, the more i saw it as a way to explore a creative side of myself that i always ignored. i decided to focus on lashes, i just thought they were one of the most relevant products in beauty and decided to dive in it .Fast forward February 2020 i decided to actually launch my lash line and haven’t looked back, that’s how much my passion/creativity for it grew.

Thelma, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I was born and raised in Nigeria, moved to Canada when i was 18 for college (Thompson Rivers University) where i got my BA. In 2015 i moved to England to pursue my Masters in Human Resources Management (Bournemouth University). I have always had discipline and a been a bit of a risk taker which is something i am kind of proud of myself about, whether it goes good or bad, I’d still try something out for myself , i believe that’s how you learn and unlearn sometimes. For my brand i decided diving in to the beauty world and focusing on a product that will always be on demand and lashes was one of them. Being that this is already a competitive business, i decided to sort out unique styles/qualities that my local market might be interested in since we are constantly evolving with beauty .Designs that has something for everyone not just a specific group

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
For me i would say the quality of your products/service helps a lot with word of mouth for your business and also customer service and corporate social responsibility plays a role as well . For the future i want collaboration more to grow it further

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
I started of really small, risked $500 from my savings and that was just for the products alone, the logos and designs i did on my own at the time just to save as much cost as possible
