We recently connected with Thea Touchton and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Thea thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Sueñito Media’s mission is to tell hilarious and interesting stories in film with diverse cast and crew behind the scenes. We prioritize our cast and crew’s mental health and make mental health content in order to reduce the stigma and give resources so people across the globe can take action for their mental health. As a person who has struggled with severe anxiety and suicidal ideation and attempts, my goal in starting this company is to bring joy into a world that can sometimes feel joyless and make sure that other people got the resources that I never had in my childhood. I want to leave the world better than I found it and I have found great strides in my own healing in the pursuit of this mission.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started as a school choir kid soloist, which led to me auditioning for my middle school musical theater, and then once my high school choir teacher decided I was the annual brunette she chose to hate (some people should not be public school teachers) that led me to community theater, which then involved into me decided to get an associates in Theatre- which if I could go back in time I would change to a communications focus- as I dropped out of my bachelor program to pursue film acting. As I was never quite Hollywood ingenue attractive but still had a deep love of film sets, I took this program DRAESIS which taught me what it took to set up a film company and I’ve been working on that every sense. My company Sueñito Media now creates short films and mental health documentaries and animations but we can also do disability, creativity, and product management consulting. As a truly independent film company, what sets Sueñito Media apart is truly our enthusiasm and positivity for the work. As a smaller company we can give our clients personal attention and work with their budgets. We are also great at making whoever works with us more confident in the film business. We are most proud of going to the White House under the Biden administration with MTV in recognition for our advocacy and work in the mental health space and then as of recently screening our first mental health feature at Paramount, joining the history countless of other bid budget studio films. What I love clients to know about us is that we truly are a community and care about the wellbeing and satisfaction of the people we work with and if you work with us even once- we elevate and recommend your brand for years to come. We are also an international multi award winning company- so the major bonus is that the work we do is recognized and respected.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I had to pivot Sueñito Media very recently when my cofounder had unexpectedly quit. He was more of the technical side of the business so when he first quit, I was so overwhelmed as we were already a very small business and I was in the middle of riding a successful up and coming acting career. I still am on the look out for someone with an even better technical prowess and dedication than my previous partner. While his exit was a hard hit to the company as it was during one of most busiest and time crunch times of the company, his leaving allowed me to realize how much taxing emotional work I was doing on his part that was not professional and allowed me to shape the company with more of my vision, and allowed me to hire more female employees which is incredible as there is such an inequality in the entertainment business of women having opportunities. I am blessed that his leaving allowed me the chance to have the honor in closing the gap.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
I have personally funded the start up business from acting and social media gigs and with extreme budgeting This year as Sueñito Media expands into larger scale projects this year I am looking for investors so if there are any reading this article that would like to see my wonderfully designed presentations, please reach out to me via phone 432-703-0750 or email [email protected]
