We were lucky to catch up with Lina Kreymerman, half of the successful duo of LNL interior design, recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Lina thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
One of the most meaningful and interesting projects we, me and my business partner Lena Nesterova, have worked on so far was complete remodeling of a residential house in New Jersey for a young family. We were recommended to this young couple by a client of ours. The couple has not yet fully formed an interior style of their own and that was exactly why it was challenging, interesting and fun for all of us. After demolition leaving only naked walls, we carefully space planned the entire house with the young and expecting family. We went through every needed room and all their wants and desirable areas for each of the rooms including bathrooms and closets and then moved on to finally choosing the style. At first the young husband and wife thought they are into a rustic/urban style, but then after showing our concept we agreed on a mix of modern glam with classic details. Of course it took a little of convincing and showing them special details why in the long run modern glam which is still on minimalistic side will make them happier over rustic/urban which will bore them within 1-2 years.
Lina, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Two of us met about 12 years back, through our love for fashion when Lena was still making unique pieces of her own at home and I fell in love with her style and her craftsmanship. Lena who is amazingly talented in all creative & marketing aspects, who also has an Architect degree from Ukraine, used to own a Russian magazine called Sova, which used to be very popular back in the 90’s amongst Russian/American crowd of New York & Miami. She sold it when our world switched to internet and all the publications started to die out. Me, having a computer science Bachelors with Masters in Design Management from Pratt, for the first 15 years out of college worked up from a programmer to an IT Manager/Chain Supply director/Product Development/New Business developer (you name it I wore all hats in Brittanica Home Fashions company and knew the business like my own) until I grew brave enough for something of my own. I also come from a family of two architects & artist and have an artistic talent of my own, having finished an Art school back in Moldova. That’s exactly when me and Lena met. We decided to join forces and try out in custom fashion business. At first it was called Sova, specialized in custom Evening wear and then we added on a Sova ready to wear line to go with it. It was a successful little business and a store in Brooklyn, NY for about 5 years until Covid hit, and that’s when we were forced to explore other creative fields since all of our clients were stuck at home and all events were cancelled while interior design started to boom for the same reason. Everyone wanted to be stuck in a beautiful home. Lucky for us we did have a few experiences while being in fashion business making sheers & drapes for a few of our clients by special request. We also had the background in architecture & design, so we rushed into our first interior design project refreshing a look for a famous Italian restaurant called Nello in Manhattan, NY. We did their full upholstery as well as their Window treatments. Then were invited to do window treatment for a new showroom for Jacob & Co. and slowly word started spreading,
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
We both have a goal of becoming a well known interior design as well as new development/construction company. After seeing the construction and quality of the old houses, we want to offer better building supplies and process as well as our concepts in design and sell a full package. And we are close to achieving that goal.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
