Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to The Suicide Doors. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
The Suicide Doors, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
One of the most meaningful projects that we’ve worked on thus far is a live performance right in the heart of Hollywood, California. It was the first time that someone hired The Suicide Doors as the headlining act. It gave us that “you made it” feeling. We were hired to perform at the season 2 premiere of “The Oath”, executive produced by 50 Cent. It was a very “Hollywood” moment, complete with a red carpet experience, a star studded crowd and we were the featured performers. It was our first time being featured at this big of an event as a group and we took the gig very seriously. We rocked the show along with our conga drummer and violinist and you could tell people were inthralled as they had never experienced that type of live energetic show before from two DJs. The energy we created that night will be something we’ll never forget!
The Suicide Doors, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Both of us, HAMX & DJ Roueche, had been DJs for years prior to creating The Suicide Doors. We both share solo international DJ success and prior, had separately started getting into music producing while simultaneously working on a few mixtapes together. We threw a party where we performed one of our mixtapes live and that sparked the discussion of creating a joint artist project. We then created The Suicide Doors and put out our first, self titled, EP a year later. After our first EP, we continued to hone in on our sound, while beginning to collaborate with more vocalists. Knowing what we bring to the table as DJs, we aimed to add even more to our live show performances. So we decided to add a live band element to our shows and incorporate live instruments. Adding a Conga Drummer, and a Violinist or Saxophonist really brought that spark to our live shows that our fans love.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
We both hear music in our heads that we want to share with the world. Whether it impacts one person’s life or a million people’s lives, just being able to share our music with the world is an accomplishment in it of itself. For us, it’s not just about making the music and getting it out, but what’s most important to us is that we make music that really means something to us as individuals and represents what we stand for as people. We want our music to be all inclusive. With that said, we know that our music isn’t for everyone, but the best part is that everyone is invited!
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
With our latest single ‘You and I” for example, the fact that we’ve made art is the most rewarding part. Also, the fact that people continue to want to hear the music that we make and grow with us speaks volumes. For us, It’s not “I have to make music”; it’s…” I get to make music”.
