We were lucky to catch up with THE SOCIAL recently and have shared our conversation below.
THE, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
We have been a band since 2019 and have learned that success comes from hard work, consistency and tenacity. With each opportunity and goal we achieve, its just another building block to the next step. We all come from different backgrounds and experience in the music industry. When we come together as a band we help mold each other and it has developed what the band is today. We all realize that The Social is more than just one or four individuals but a community of people who love to make music.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
We are The Social, a 4-piece alternative rock band based out of Los Angeles, CA. We write and perform original live music in Los Angeles and on a national level. Each one of us has been in the industry for over 10 years individually in original bands as well as hired session/touring musicians. In 2017, Tommy Horrock and Alexander Rosca by sheer coincidence, met via Craigslist and toured together for an artist as hired musicians eventually turning into a partnership together in Alexander’s Indie-pop band, Layne. After Alexander left Layne, he and Tommy lost contact for several months while each pursued their own endeavors. In early 2018 by sheer coincidence again, also via Craigslist, Tommy and Alexander reunited in an original rock band alongside former Keaton Stromberg called THE SOCIAL performing as a three piece until Mark Otero joined on Bass. The mission statement was to create high energy feel good music that is inviting to all demographics. We are entertainers and we place a lot of emphasis on our stage performance and generate most of our revenue via merchandise sales and live shows so our main goal is to tour on an international level and release as much music as we can.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
In early 2023, Keaton left the group to pursue another project in music and the remaining 3 members wanted to carry on as The Social and build upon what we had established over the first 4 years. After much time of debating what the next move was to make, we finally met our new singer Jake via Craigslist and that set us on our new trajectory of grinding relentlessly and within 6 months of Jake joining group, have written and performed a full albums worth of songs, released a single, and toured outside California in support of the song.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
We believe that society could help best support artists/bands like us by coming to shows and buying merchandise. Or by listening to our music online and watching music videos. Street teams in different locations are also very helpful and have worked for us in the past with show promotion.
