We recently connected with The Second Inversions and have shared our conversation below.
The Second Inversions, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
Our first album, Sonder, is the most meaningful project to us thus far because of the process that went into creating the project. It took us probably 6 months to complete this project and during this time, we were still learning and getting to know each other more deeply not only as players but friends. It might not have been the most impactful project to others, but the impact was felt within. We held weekly jam sessions to find our groove and establish the culture of what we wanted The Second Inversions to be. Because of this foundation that we were able to build, Sonder is the most meaningful project in our journey so far. However, our story is still being written and there are many more projects to come.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
For those who have not heard of us yet, we are The Second Inversions, a RnB/Jazz Fusion band that mixes soft and smooth with a groove. We initially began playing together in the fall of 2022, having regular jam sessions. The three of us realized that there was a special connection in what we were doing, besides just being friends. There was no set goal in mind in the beginning, but we realized that we enjoyed providing a safe space for others in their busy lives to switch things up and slow down. Jamming together and showing the public our DIY style has helped us grow and improve our skills in different areas such as content creation and music production. What sets us apart from other groups is our vulnerability in showing people that we are still learning and trying to improve our craft as we go. We don’t aim for perfection rather we aim to be a source of light and love in the world with our art, being a place you can keep coming back to when you need to slow your mind down from the constant hustle.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Our goal is to be a source of positive energy for those who listen to our music or watch our content. We want to spread our light through good, groovy, and timeless music allowing others to disconnect from the busyness of everyday life and feel at ease, even if it is only for 30 seconds of their day.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
It’s rewarding to see others enjoy our music alongside us. The moment when all of the layers fall off of a project we’ve been working on and it finally appears as something cohesive is special to us. Knowing that something we created can help people feel better about themselves and calm their state of mind inspires us to continue to grow. Music has been a tool that has allowed us to escape and heal. Sharing our music and ideas with the world and having the opportunity to change people’s lives, even if it’s just for a brief 30 seconds, is an immensely rewarding experience.
