We recently connected with The Rudely (TheRudelyHonestPodcast) Honest Podcast and have shared our conversation below.
The Rudely (TheRudelyHonestPodcast), thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you take us back in time to the first dollar you earned as a creative – how did it happen? What’s the story?
Our first dollar earned as creatives came through the sponsor of our podcast, No Heart No Hustle Clothing Company. This partnership with the brand’s owner began naturally; starting with us as customers. Shady made a purchase after seeing a post from a mutual acquaintance, and soon, the rest of the Crew followed suit. Before we knew it, the brand was getting a lot of attention in Baltimore and the DMV area, all thanks to word of mouth. Not too long after, we launched the podcast, and No Heart No Hustle became the first brand to support us purely out of love, we etched a Sponsorship deal and the rest is history.
The Rudely (TheRudelyHonestPodcast), love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
During the COVID-19 pandemic, like many others, we found ourselves searching for ways to stay entertained during the shut downs. Our friend group spent hours on FaceTime, offering advice, listening to each other, and supporting one another through life’s challenges. During one of these conversations, Shady casually mentioned the idea of starting a show similar to the “Red Table Talk”, from there we shopped the idea around to our friends. From then on, The Rudely Honest Podcast was launched. Honorable mention to one of our good friends who helped us decided on the name.
As a podcast, we cover everything from pop culture topics, to personal life stories, while always engaging in candid conversations with our guests. What sets us apart is our authenticity—we’re not pretending to be someone else when we’re on camera or behind the mics. We believe it’s this genuine, raw approach that connects us with our audience, and we’re most proud of staying true to ourselves.
To our listeners, whether you’re new or have been with us from the beginning: “Show up authentically as you, and let others adjust.”
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
When we first decided to dive into podcasting, we didn’t have a guidebook or blueprint—just four friends having casual conversations while streaming live on Facebook and Instagram. The initial product wasn’t the highest quality, and we even faced a setback when one of the original hosts left the show. This unexpected change forced us to pivot—should we continue with just three hosts? Or consider bringing in someone new? Like any business, when a sudden shift happens, it’s about learning to adjust & adapt in order to keep things moving forward. It’s never easy, but we made it work. Along the way, we lost our studio space twice, yet our core audience and sponsor continued to support us, which kept us going. For a while, we carried on with just the three hosts. Later on, we brought in our brother, Kai McFly, as a guest host, and eventually made him a permanent host. Since then, we’ve only grown stronger as a team, and our following has expanded. Through all the challenges, we learned the importance of flexibility while staying true to our core values. A sudden pivot may be tough, but it’s also an opportunity to refine your approach and adapt in ways you may not have expected. The key is to stay adaptable, listen to your audience, and keep your original mission in focus. Your ability to adjust will make you more resilient in the long run.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The ability to connect with others, whether they know us or are complete strangers, is powerful. We often receive comments on our content from people who genuinely relate to the topics or stories we share, which is incredibly rewarding and a big reason we keep posting. While being vulnerable and transparent with strangers can be challenging, we can’t deny that it leads to some great content!
