We were lucky to catch up with The Rosies recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi The Rosies, thanks for joining us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
By starting and taking the first step! It’s funny but when the band was founded we all barely knew how to play our instruments. When Sal joined the band 2 years ago he never picked up a bass before.
Practice practice practice. Patience patience patience. The more we’ve practiced and the more we’ve let things happen the more they work out how they’re supposed to. And we’re super grateful to be able to do what we do because of that.
The only obstacles are that we’re all working musicians and coordinating schedules is always a fun time.
The Rosies, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
The band started early 2018. Jon met Ryan and Joe separately within a weeks span. It was definitely fate. He met Joe at a local taco joint they both worked at, and then met Ryan at the coffee shop next door on the next day. Jon bonded with both of them separately over similar music taste and suggested we all jam together sometime.
When we all first met up, we barely knew how to play our instruments but somehow managed to perform our first gig ever within a couple months. We played as a 3 piece until the pandemic hit then Sal joined us when live music came back to round out the 4 piece. Sal and I knew each other from back in the day through mutual friends.
Definitely how far we’ve come as musicians friends and people. And also our debut album “Welcome to the Rose Garden” :)
What we want people to know about us is simple! Come to a show, hang out, smoke a j with us, be a part of the Rose Garden. It’s a community and it’s for you.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Have fun. Be true to yourself. Kill yer tv.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Go to shows. Buy merch. Follow people on socials. Post about them. Tell your friends. Support the scene. It’ll support you back.
