We caught up with the brilliant and insightful The Roni a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

The Roni, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s the kindest thing anyone has ever done for you?

The kindest thing that anyone has done for me was allowing my family to push me to get help with my mental health which they have stood by my throughout everything that I been emotionally going through. At the moment, I felt like I was disappointed because I was never gonna have my own life that I always wanted and prayed for. However, it did helped me to understand that my self-esteem comes first and being able to learn how to still grow mentally as an adult. I realized that they’re not trying to stop me from living my life. They only want to see that this can help me to prepare myself into the real world as a woman from heading into the wrong direction. It is so meaningful to me because I believe that God does all things to help me for my own good and for me to allow that faith in my heart to never hold any doubts, fear & etc. I can’t say that I’m fully complete yet but I know that right now I’m very hopeful to what’s gonna be for me in the future.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

Hey hey, my name is Kayla aka The Roni. I was born and raised in New Jersey. I’m an Online Independent Singer/Songwriter, Virtual Engineer, and Keyboardist. I was introduced into music from a very age which it started from church into exploring more opportunities online. Most important thing about me is that I’m very different from others because I have my own unique mind of how to grow & work through challenges when it comes to music and life instead of feeling like you have to do the same like others do. Especially whenever I started creating music, I have a very Old-school R&B vibe but with Gospel combined altogether. I’m very proud of how creating music has helped me to musically grow to understand & explore more about myself. Also, I have been able to collaborate with amazing artists that would inspire me to learn how to teach myself to be everything in an artist but in my own creativity. The main thing that I want everyone to know about me is that I have created a huge purpose as an artist and as a person of what I want to succeed in. You’re looking at someone who struggles learning disability and mental health in her life. However, It has taught me to never give up and I learn to accept who I am because I am everything that God has made me to be. which is why the struggles I have are helping to build motivation to others that are going through the same thing to keep going in their music & lives. We just have to stop running from facing the challenges so that you can take this opportunity to learn how to walk mentally which can be the help of everything that you want to be today and the future.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?

Honestly, I’m not much a person who focuses on building followers and etc. I’m the type who just appreciate who follows me and listens to my songs that make online. My advice for folks is to never put a lot of effort of trying to focus on popular growth. Just always be yourself and watch yourself grow.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?

The most rewarding aspect is that whenever you do something that you love, it helps you to build so much confident within yourself and being able to watch yourself transition in your creative works. As an artist, it’s amazing because it is hard to stay on track most times but I never gave up on purpose of why I love doing music for myself.
