Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to The Real Chelzzz. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
The Real, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
My new book has been my most recent mission. Heroine Heroin is a book about overcoming adversity, addiction and codependency. Being an addict myself, I wanted to shed some light on why addicts behave the way they behave and offer tools and resources to help break these trauma bonds. My new book will help addicts and codependents of any kind and offer tools and resources on how to break the negative cycle. The real life stories will show the reader they are not alone in their suffering or on their journey to recovery and offer a back platform for all readers to connect and interact together in a safe space.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
This all started with a relapse I had about 18 months ago. I was solely focused on my music and living the lifestyle of a rockstar. That lifestyle quickly left me with more problems (self inflicted) more chaos and more damage to try to navigate through. As I tried to get clean and struggled for months, going to jail and seeing all the addicts up close and personal gave me a glimpse of what I was becoming and luckily I was scared straight. Upon being released from jail, I began picking up the pieces. I attended AA and NA meetings, therapy and other 12 step study group based on codependency. I began to realize that most addicts act in a codependent way whether they’re sober or actively using. I began to dive into research on codependency and came to find out that I too suffered from this incurable disease. While on my own self reflective journey, I wanted to share my insight and knowledge with others who are suffering from the same illness in hopes they too can have a better quality of life.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I found myself in jail after a domestic dispute between my wife and I. It was a drug induced blow out that would kill most relationships. Due to my addiction, I was losing everyone and everything I held near and dear. I was isolated smoking crack daily and burning the candle at both ends. Upon being released from jail, I got back in the saddle and began working on myself daily. I attended therapy, N.A. and AA meetings and joined a codependency group. God touched me in that jail cell and told me I wasn’t living the life he wanted me to live. I wasn’t full filling my purpose. Seeing the damage I caused first hand put me in an odd cross roads. I could either continue down my negative path, eventually killing myself or someone else- or I could do the unthinkable and start peeling back the layers of pain to get to the core of my issues and that’s what I did. It was then I found out that addiction is only a symptom of the real issue. Codependency. That sparked the novel that is now being published that will help people break the chains of addictions and rid themselves of unhealthy and unnecessary baggage.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
This has been a huge pivot from my music. I never thought I’d be an author but God had other plans for me. My story is not one for the faint of heart but I needed to be told so others wouldn’t have to struggle and suffer blindly like I did for so many years.
