We recently connected with THE OTH3RS and have shared our conversation below.
Hi THE, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
We probably would have to say our most meaningful project that we have worked on would be the “.Wavs” project which will be dropping really soon. We did produced the whole project for our longtime collaborator Jay Kell & Shelby Ruger. Every song was engineered by Relli who we have been working with since the beginning of our career suits all family. The project is the first of its kind in our opinion. We push the sound of what’s coming out in Houston and music in general. The team let us have full control over the creative process allowing us to display our sound to the fullest.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
The Oth3rs is a music production duo made up of Harp and Jerms. Our story starts in Louisiana. We are both Louisiana raised as kids which has a huge influence on the sound that we would later create. Harp went to LSU, while attending classes he learned how to make beats in his free time. He was largely influence by the southern trap movement led by acts like Young Jeezy, T.I., Dj Tomp, Shawty Red, 2 Chainz, and Future. He would then begin frequently creating music with “Jay Kell” who is Jerms’s older brother. Jerms would would shoot Jay kell’s music videos helping out the team. The OTH3RS real conception would actually take place in 2017 when Harp needed to take some time away from music as he welcomed a baby girl into the world. Jerms would then experiment with making beats for his brother Jay KEll in Harps absence. Jerms style was heavily influenced by Pharrell and Kanye West. When Harp got back into making beats the two (JERMS & HARP) connected as one production duo known as “THE OTH3RS”. The Oth3rs would go on to create songs for several artist like Jay KEll, Trae the Truth, Nyk Cage, B. Holmes, Shelby Ruger, and Hot Peez.
The duo’s ring yang style of and love for different styles of music help craft their unique style that artist have grown to love. We love to tell stories through smooth, dark, soulful soundscapes.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
We thoroughly enjoy helping artist tell their stories through sound. Its very rewarding when an artist comes to us and gives us an idea and we try our hardest to create a canvas for the artist to paint their picture on. whether its a song or full on project its very rewarding to see the whole process play out to a finished product. If the artist is happy that’s the best feeling but when you give the music to the people and they receive it the way you envisioned it that’s even more rewarding.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
THE OTH3RS is a lifestyle for us. Its much deeper than a name. We are both creatives in the music space but we also create through all types of other mediums such as fashion and visuals. We are currently working on finding ways to create community for humans like us. You don’t have to be in a category or box. We consider ourselves to be pluralist. We have several layers that make our style what it is today. Being “OTH3R” is all about doing you and not what the crowd is doing. So our driving force is to convey that through the creative mediums that we use today and moving forward.
