Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to The Moondrops. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
The Moondrops, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The most meaningful project we’ve worked on is our full length LP titled “Only A Dream”, just recently released in late November 2024. We have been a band for about 7 years putting out singles and EPs but this has been our first full length album to date. So much time, effort and passion has gone into this project. We worked with good friends to mix and master the album and create visual content for album covers, so we all hold this project very near and dear to our hearts. This is definitely the best music we have put out thus far in terms of recording quality and song quality.
The Moondrops, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
We have all been passionate about music since we were very young. Inevitably, each of us picked up instruments at a certain age and the passion and drive was there to push us forward and get us to where we are today. Over everything, what keeps us going is the love we have for playing music together and the wonderful community of people the Bay Area music scene has to offer.
Listening to The Moondrops provides comfort and a feeling of relatability with lyrics resembling everyday experiences and feelings. Tempos and dynamics of songs will fluctuate, songs can be anywhere from dreamy to heavy hitting, but The Moondrops can most accurately be described as straight up Indie rock. We do our best to get crowds involved at live shows, making the experience more fun for everyone. We also have lots of merchandise and physical copies of our music for sale at every live show.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
The best way for society to support artists is to directly support them. This could mean buying their art, buying physical copies of music or tickets to a show, using art for something and paying the artist directly, etc. I think a problem with artistic support nowadays is that the lines are blurred for the majority of the population on what it truly means to support an artist. Companies like Spotify, Apple Music, and Ticketmaster give the illusion that by listening to an artist or buying tickets, you are supporting that artist and they can make a “living” off of your support. This is just not true in this day and age. Spotify pays a fraction of a cent per stream and frankly does not pay artists for streams at all in many cases. Ticketmaster charges numerous fees to fans and withholds money from musicians. As one can imagine, it continues to become harder to make money as a musician. This means that directly supporting artists and musicians by buying physical copies of music, tickets to shows, and merchandise is the most effective way to give back to artists.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a musical artist is definitely releasing our music for everyone to hear. Working on something as hard as we do and hearing people’s reactions to it and seeing them have fun at shows is truly what it’s all about. Words of encouragement mean so much more than one may think.
