We recently connected with The Lux and have shared our conversation below.
The , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
We believe that to be successful in the electronic music industry as a DJ, you need a number of key elements. First of all, music requires love and dedication, so we know that it is important to be willing to invest time in perfecting your skills and knowledge.
The stronger your technical knowledge, the more confident you will be when acting and the more you will be able to express your creativity.
Another key aspect is to find your own style and be original. Standing out in the electronic music industry means having a unique and authentic sound. We know that you can follow current trends but always look for your own musical identity and experiment with different genres, sounds and techniques until you find what you really like and what works for you.
Networking is what has helped us the most at the beginning of our career.
Connecting with other DJs, producers and industry professionals has given us opportunities for collaboration and growth.
Attending events, festivals and conferences related to electronic music is an excellent way to establish relationships and make yourself known.
We must see our career as a company. To keep control of everything we want we have to know a little about everything and that is why in these times a DJ must not only know about music but it is also crucial to have marketing and promotion skills. to stand out in the industry. Leverage social media and music streaming platforms to create a strong online presence and reach a broader audience.
To have your own musical identity, you need your own production, the creation of mixes to increase your visibility and your own style. We feel that it is no longer enough to play other artists’ songs, we must create our own music.
Finally, live performances are a fundamental part of success. We work a lot on our stage presence, interaction with the audience and the ability to read the dance floor. Performing at all types of events in our startup has given us the exposure needed to grow and build our career as a DJ.
The , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
We are Dimas and Pastor Garcilazo, We were born and raised in Venezuela, now we live in Miami, together we form the electronic music duo The Lux.
Since we were children we discovered our passion for music. But it was not until we arrived in the city of Miami that we were lucky enough to find Shyft Academy, an academy for DJs and electronic music lovers, which became our starting point and much of what we know and have learned comes from there. .
We had the opportunity to immerse ourselves in the world of electronic music in a structured and guided way. Our teachers Matias Perez(DIFFER), Santiago ibañez (SAINT) and Tony Guerra are professional DJs with years of experience and knowledge in the industry. They taught us the technical fundamentals and skills needed to mix and create smooth transitions between songs.
But Shyft didn’t just focus on the technical, they also encouraged us to be creative and find our own style as a duo. Through practical exercises and improvisation sessions, we were encouraged to experiment with different sounds, genres and techniques. It was at this academy where our identity as a brother duo began to form.
In addition to the educational aspect, it also gave us the opportunity to meet other electronic music enthusiasts. Through events, workshops and networking sessions, we were able to establish relationships with other DJs, producers and industry professionals. These connections were valuable and helped us expand our network.
After our time at Shyft, we felt ready to go out into the world and start performing live together. With every opportunity to play events and festivals, we were able to apply everything we had learned and showcase our talent as a duo. The road has not been easy, but thanks to the solid foundation we gained at the academy, we were able to face the challenges with confidence and determination. Our goal has always been to bring to the public not only the best music but also music that they didn’t know they wanted to hear. In some way also educating the listeners’ ears, Spotify’s top 100 is not the only good music in the world.
Our approach as DJs stands out for the constant search for unique sounds. We are always exploring new influences and fusing genres to offer a fresh and original musical experience. We believe that the diversity of sounds we select is what differentiates us, since we do not find that specific combination in other artists of the genre.
We are very proud that people really like our unique sound and that the support is such that in such a short time on the scene we are where we are now. This achievement demonstrates our dedication and the level of excellence we seek to achieve in every project we work on together.
The most important thing we want you to know about our music is that we want it to transcend borders, connecting with audiences from diverse places. We seek to create a sound experience that is not only unique, but also universal, so that people can enjoy it in any corner of the world. We strive to constantly innovate and offer sets that are not only memorable, but also irresistible to the public. We want our passion for music to translate into unforgettable moments for those who listen to us, thus creating a lasting connection with our global audience and we are committed to providing a complete and satisfying experience for our listeners.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A lesson we had to unlearn in the music world was the belief that success is directly tied to immediate approval. Previously, we sought constant validation, but over time, we learned that authenticity and persistence are paramount. True connection with the audience is built through consistency and artistic honesty, rather than the pursuit of instant approval.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Our journey to building a social media audience began with a strategic approach. We constantly share engaging content, such as snippets of our unique sets and collaborations with other artists. Interaction with our followers helped create a sense of community.
Tips for those just starting out: Be authentic and show your passion. Interact with your audience through comments and direct messages, fostering a genuine connection. Collaborate with other artists and leverage trending content to increase visibility. Remember, building a presence takes time, so stay patient and stay true to your unique musical identity.
