We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful The Local Losers. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with The below.
Hi The, thanks for joining us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
The name Local Losers came together kind of spontaneously. After finishing our first film, we knew it wasn’t going to be the last, so we figured we should come up with a good. Something to let people know it’s us when we come out with a new project. Yoaspire came up with the name, and we all just thought it had a cool ring to it, especially for a production company.
The name kind of speaks to our style too. Not that we think we’re ‘losers’ it’s more about our laid-back approach to filmmaking. We are passionate about our craft of course, but we try not take ourselves too seriously at the same time. We believe in enjoying the process, having fun on set, and making sure the creativity flows and the work gets done without the weight of unnecessary stress.
The name is also an attention-grabber. People always ask us about it when we wear our merch, and it’s a great way to spark conversation and connect with a new audience.

The, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
We’re an independent film production company based in New Jersey, specializing in short films, music videos, and commercial work. Founded by brothers yoaspire and Isaiah Moorehead, along with childhood friend Lauren Elise, we’re all about bringing unique stories to life, whether they’re our own or for our clients.
We got our start in the summer of 2021 when we produced our first original film, 4:04. It was our debut as a collective. We don’t really have any formal filmmaking training so it was just us trying to figure it out as we went along. We did everything ourselves, from the writing, to the shooting and editing. No real budget, just the passion to create something.
When that film actually started to come together, we realized this wouldn’t be our last time working together as a group. The success of this film is what inspired to create The Local Losers.
We’ve accomplished a lot in our 2 short years of being in business. We’ve grown our crew, taken on bigger projects, and earned numerous accoldaes from the film community along the way. Similar to other production companies, we produce music videos, commercials, and short films for clients. But what sets us apart is our passion for creating original stories that are all our own.
Every project start, whether it’s for a client or something we’ve come up with ourselves, we make quality our first priority. Making sure to provide stunning visuals always. We’re all about originality and pushing boundaries, but just as important to us is the vibe on our sets. We make sure it’s a space where our cast and crew feel valued and comfortable. We know how much your work environment affects your mental and overall health so we strive to create a positive experience for everyone we work with.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For us, the most rewarding aspect of being a creative lies in the art itself. There’s something very fulfilling about taking a concept that once existed only as an idea in your mind and bringing it to life.
Every time we start a new project, that’s what we’re chasing. It’s not just about finishing something; it’s about looking back and knowing you turned nothing into something. That’s the kind of feeling that keeps you coming back for more. No matter how many times you do it, that feeling never gets old, it’s like every project is the first time all over again.

How do you keep your team’s morale high?
When it comes to working with a team, especially in filmmaking, you’ve got to make sure everyone feels seen, heard, and appreciated. It’s not just about the job; it’s about the energy on set. Filmmaking is this crazy, collaborative art form where every single person matters. The goal is always to create a vibe where people can actually breathe and feel comfortable enough to bring their best to the table without unnecessary stress. Everyone’s sharper, more creative, and you can feel that in the work. It’s all about making the set a place people want to be. That’s what motivates people to want to work with you.
