The Jean (Twins), thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today.
The Jean , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Too often the media represents innovation as something magical that only high-flying tech billionaires and upstarts engage in – but the truth is almost every business owner has to regularly innovate in small and big ways in order for their businesses to survive and thrive. Can you share a story that highlights something innovative you’ve done over the course of your career?
We are starring in season three of the game show, The Weakest Link, which will air on April 17th at 10 p.m. on NBC and the 18th on Peacock. When we started our brand, The Jean Twins, a few years ago, we never imagined that only a few years later we would be selected to appear in a reality competition series. It was so much fun to travel to Los Angeles, California, meet the other cast members, work with the production team, and see our dreams come true. It was a wonderful opportunity to promote our brand, YouTube channel and online clothing store, JEANie Couture, which can be found at TheJeanTwins.com/shop.
The Jean (Twins), before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
We are Guerds and Indjina Jean, also known as The Jean Twins. We started our brand, The Jean Twins, in April of 2020 when Indjina suggested that we start a YouTube channel. We have been through so many challenges that we thought other people can learn from. We were born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, where our biological father was killed, resulting in our adoption. Indjina was born with a congenital heart disorder that she overcomes daily and Guerds is an advocate for other DACA recipients like herself. TheJeanTwins.com is an online community where no one feels left out and everyone overcomes daily tribulations together. Whether you need a nice outfit to feel beautiful on the inside and out or just some positive videos for a pick-me-up (The Jean Twins Youtube channel), everyone can find exactly what they are looking for.
We’d love to hear your thoughts about selling platforms like Amazon/Etsy vs selling on your own site.
We sell our products on eBay, Google, Instagram, Facebook, Poshmark, Offer Up, and our website, TheJeanTwins.com/shop. We prefer to sell through our website because it allows us more flexibility with the layout of our products and we have less restrictions on what we can sell. We like that eBay takes a percentage per sale as opposed to Amazon taking a set amount each month whether you sell or not. Instagram and Facebook are convenient because they are one store that is connected although located on both social platforms. The biggest advantage of selling on Facebook and Instagram is that our social media is where we started our brand so we have the most followers there which can direct them to those connected online stores.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
We made sure to have a presence on as many social media platforms as possible. We have an account for The Jean Twins on YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Clubhouse. During the pandemic shutdown, we hosted weekly Instagram lives on Wednesdays and Facebook lives on Fridays to exercise with our viewers. We were able to support our community and vice versa through that diffiult time by holding one another accountable in taking care of ourselves. We also connect as many of our social media accounts as possible so that we save a lot of time by not having to recreate every post. The posts that we upload to Instagram automatically post to Facebook. We also make sure to post first to TikTok before Instagram so that our TikTok handle appears on Instagram, which in turn promotes our TikTok. We also take advantage of the features that the apps have such as the links in our bios, uploading reels, adding music to content, tagging in posts, pinning comments, and pinning posts. When you use the app’s features, the algorithm rewards you for it.
