Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to The Hood Doctor . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi The Hood, thanks for joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
When I went to college in 2015 in a completely different state, the air took a toll on me. I was diagnosed with chronic asthma. I probably visited the clinic once a month for 3 years straight. I was also diagnosed with bronchitis, tonsillitis and other respiratory infections. I was tired of being prescribed antibiotics and medications and nothing was helping me get better. I decided to take matters into my own hands and get into herbs. I started researching different herbs and see what would help my lungs. Once I figured it out, I implemented herbs into my everyday diet. A year later, I was asthma free. Once I seen how easy and affordable it was to heal something millions of people struggle with everyday I decided to turn my lifestyle into a business. I really love helping people.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Although I started The Hood Doctor due to my success of getting rid of asthma, I researched many different herbs for many different things. I provide teas for weightloss, respiratory infections, anxiety, hormonal diseases and more. I really want to cater to all kinds of people. Although asthma is common, things like PCOS is too. I have pcos and am currently working on healing it. My diet of herbs for pcos is also available on the website for purchase. Every herb I have for customers I also take myself. I am most proud when a customer tells me I’ve helped me. If they lost weight , or had less menstrual cramps. Small testimonies mean so much to me and motivate me to create more. My main goal is to cater to all but importantly to those who may not be able to visit the clinic or hospital as frequently as they may need. Healthcare or even good healthcare isn’t accessible to all and I feel like everybody deserves to live a healthy life despite of their financial status or circumstance.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
Funding my business was not easy. My business began right in the beginning of the pandemic. Prior to that I would work jobs I was overqualified for. I knew my purpose was not to work a traditional job because I was never happy. I’ve worked in customer service for over 10 years and even thought I was helping people in a sense, I wanted to help people in a way that didn’t involve entertainment or fashion. I saved up every penny I had. I didn’t go on trips, or buy expensive clothes and cars like most people my age. I skipped out on a lot of “fun” because I knew what I wanted to do in life. Once I saved up a good amount, I slowly stated buying inventory. I learned that in business you’ll never be perfect. It’s all about letting the customers tell you what you need to improve.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
I try to keep a close and personal relationship with all clients. My business is based primarily on social media, so I be sure to check in on clients after receiving their order. I answer questions and even provide step by step instructions on how to take a product. I am completely honest. I let clients and future clients know when I am shipping as well as when there will be a delay. Being transparent and honest with clients helps build a trust and understanding and mutual respect. I also do genuinely do this to help people so I make sure my clients know that as well
